Our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend is now resting in her Savior’s arms. Betty Jean Stepper was born in Omaha, Nebraska to Severt and Marge Linquist on May 11, 1929. She joined her older brother Severt and the family moved to Ainsworth, NB. She lived there until she graduated high school and ventured to Miles City, MT with her good friend Ida (Fredrickson) Nybo and her family. She lived and worked in Miles City until she met and danced her first dance with her future husband, Walter Stepper, at the Powder River Club (Walter got his red head!). They wed in Terry, MT on June 17, 1951 and that is where she would call home for the rest of her life here on earth. Walter and Betty were blessed with three daughters, Lori, Lynette and Lucinda. Betty worked many jobs in Terry and served as the County Assessor for 20 years. She enjoyed following her girls and later her grandchildren’s activities, playing cards and dominoes with friends, serving her church as organist, and dancing. She and Walter danced their first dance when they met and their last at her grandson’s wedding on July 4th, less than two weeks ago. Betty and Walter spent the last 3 years in Billings, MT after Walter had complications after heart surgery. She would always say “It is a nice place (Vista at St. John’s) to be if I cannot be at home (Terry). Betty is survived by her husband of 64 years Walter, daughters Lori, Lynette Scott (Randy), and Lucinda Loran (Keith), grandchildren Shad, Kayla, Shann (Jessica), Devin (Andrea) Scott and Nicole, Brandon (Shayna), and Blake Loran. She was thrilled to be great-grandma to her “little sweetie” Charlotte (Shann and Jessica). She was preceded in death by her parents and brother. The family would like to thank St. John’s Vista for the loving care that they gave to Betty as she fought her short battle with cancer and Pastor Jay Bickelhaupt who took care of her most important need, keeping her in Jesus’ Word and promises. In lieu of flowers if you would like to make a donation in memory of Betty, the family requests they may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church of Terry, Apostles Lutheran Church of Billings, the Vista at St. John’s Lutheran Home, or the charity of your choice. Visitation will be held on Sunday, July 19, 2015 from 1:00-6:00 p.m. at Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Terry. Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 20 at 11:00 a.m. at the Community Presbyterian Church in Terry with a reception to follow. Interment will be held in the Prairie County Cemetery. Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home of Terry is in charge of the arrangements. Condolences may be sent to the family by visiting: www.stevensonandsons.com.

My heart is hurting and I feel such sadness. She was a dear friend and one of my most favorite people and I will miss her. Words convey so little when hearts feel so much. We had so much fun over the years; the best holiday dinners together and playing cards and going dancing. You were the best godparents to our youngest child. RIP Betty….

After my mom and dad, Walter and Betty were like backup parents for me. They always had a place in their heart and their home for me as I was growing up. It is always a shame when time and distance keeps us from those who have so much meaning in our lives. For the family, know you are loved and in our prayers, and even though Betty will be missed, we have the assurance that we will see her again in the presence of our Saviour.

Dear Lynette and family, My heart goes out to you at this difficult time. We know your Mom’s in God’s arms and we will see her again, but it doesn’t stop the hurt now. I have fond memories of your Mom and can still hear saying “Oh, Lynette!” Thankful for all the times we had the Ainsworth connection and could meet at reunion time. Wish I could be up there with you now, but will keep you in my thoughts and prayers. Hugs to you Walter, Lori, Lynette and Lucinda and the rest of the family. Love you guys!

I am thinking of all of you during this sad time. Lori, I had fun times spending overnights at your house. Your Mom and Dad always made me feel like ‘one of the girls.’ I loved it when she would call out, “Hey,Sandie! Keep it down, I’m trying to rest!” or your dad would say, “you girls quit that giggling and go to sleep!” Made me feel right at home.
