Dannetta “Dannie” Lockie Muri, age 86 of Miles City, was called home on January 9, 2015 at the Holy Rosary Hospital in Miles City.
On September 15, 1928, a daughter, Dannetta Olive, was born to Dan and Blanche (Hawley) Lockie. They named their daughter after her father and called her Dannie. She was the youngest of five children who all grew up on the Lockie Family Ranch in Sheffield, Montana. Dannie spent her elementary school days in a one-room school house. She attended Rosebud High School where she graduated as Valedictorian in 1946. Upon graduation, she continued her education at the University of Montana for two years where she joined the sorority Sigma Kappa as a lifetime member. After her sophomore year, Dannie returned home to marry the love of her life, her soul mate, Al “Buck” Muri. Their marriage in Forsyth, on June 11th, 1950, became the third union between a Lockie sister and a Muri brother. Dannie’s sisters, Lorraine and Jean, married Buck’s brothers, Andy and Bob, fostering a very unique family dynamic. Dannie and Buck spent their early years together in Cartersville, Montana where they owned and managed the Cartersville Store and Bar. During this time, the couple was blessed with the first three of their five children; Kathy, Alfred Ben Jr., and Ron. In 1957, the two moved to Miles City where they welcomed their last two children, Jeff and Tami. Throughout these years, and the ones to come, the house Dannie and Buck built together was home to many, and they were parents to more than only their children. In time, the couple started their own business, known as Eastern Brokerage Service, selling farm and ranch real estate. They worked side-by-side until retirement in 2000. Dannie was involved in numerous activities including, but not limited to, sewing club, bowling league, the election board, and booster club. She was very instrumental in opening the concession stands at Denton Field and was an active member in the Methodist Church. Although Dannie was engaged in many organizations, her number one priority was ALWAYS her family. Until, of course, her grandchildren arrived. This is when the rest of her family took a back seat. She considered her grandchildren to be a gift from God. Dannie and Buck were very involved in their children and grandchildren’s lives. Splitting their time between Miles City and Billings, they rarely missed a concert, music festival, play, dance recital, swim meet, basketball, football, soccer, volleyball, tennis, baseball, or track and field event. Dannie was so full of life and was always ready for adventure. She was game for anything at any time. When not following their grandchildren, Dannie and Buck enjoyed traveling the United States, visiting friends and family, exploring new sights, and more importantly spending time together. Even though she will be greatly missed, Dannie’s strength, selflessness, and the warmth of her love will never be forgotten.
She is survived by her husband of 65 years Al ‘Buck’ Muri; four children- Kathy (Laurie) Boutelle of Miles City, Ron Muri of Billings, Jeff (Tammy) Muri of Billings, Tami (Doug) Askin of Miles City; eight grandchildren – Shannon (Mac) Fogelsong, Sheila (Kelly) Strobel, Nathan Muri, Callie, Jase and Danielle Muri, Amanda and Brian Askin; two great-grandchildren – Mitchell Fogelsong and Brek Strobel; sister – Jean Lockie Muri, three sisters-in-law- Marie Ansoms, Helen (Jack) Lockie Martin, and Anita Muri; two brothers-in-law Karl (Joyce) Muri and Bill Leischner; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Dannie is also survived by her special family friends Cynthia ‘Cyn Fooie’ Vergine Mulvaney, the Patch Family, and Sharon and Orvil Hope. She was preceded in death by her parents – Dan and Blanche Lockie; infant son – Alfred Ben Jr.; two brothers – Donnie and Wallace Lockie; sister and brother-in-law – Lorraine and Andy Muri; brother-in-law Bob Muri; mother and father-in-law Nellie and R.P. Muri; four brothers-in-law – Bill (Virginia) Muri, Jim (Alice) Muri, Pete Muri, Chuck Ansoms; and sister-in-law Anna Mae Leischner.

Dear Kathy and family, my condolences to you all on the loss of your mother. I didn’t know Dannie before she moved to Extended Care, but it sounds like she was an amazing, accomplished woman. I’ve gotten to know her, and you Kathy, as our mothers shared the same table in the dining room. Dannie communicated so much with her eyes; her eyes would laugh at something funny, but she could also communicate “back off” with just one look. I will miss her when I visit Miles City, and I’ll miss you, Kathy. Once again, my condolences to you and your family.
