Donald James Stanley, 78 of Miles City, MT was called home by the Lord on Monday evening, February 5, 2018. Don was born August 5, 1939 at home in Miles City, MT. Don was the first born son of Donald William and Claudia Helen Stanley. He attended the SY and Foster Creek Schools in Volborg, MT, and Mount Ellis Academy in Bozeman, MT.
He attended Custer County High School and farmed for local neighbors in his teens.
Don left Montana with a custom cutter crew and later settled in Denver, Colorado where he worked at a local lumber company as a truck driver. In 1982, Don moved back to Miles City and started a lawn and snow removal service, and clean up business. Don was a collector of “everything” and held countless rummage sales and was a regular call in on Radio-Tradio.
Don enjoyed all sports, especially the Denver Broncos and the Atlanta Braves. He could name all the players from nearly every team. He was an avid reader and loved gospel music. He was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church. He loved his family and friends. He held a special place in his heart for the Custer County Cowgirls. He enjoyed going to the soup kitchen everyday and recently became the “greeter” for the noon meal and used that responsibility to share his warm smile and friendship with his friends and fellow Miles City residents.
Donald is preceded in death by his parents Donald W. Stanley and Claudia H. Stanley. He is survived by his brothers Dick (Jean) Stanley of Volborg, Jay Stanley of Billings, Jerry (Peggy) Stanley of Miles City, and Sherill (Dan) Frickle of Billings MT.
Uncle Donny, we love you and you will be missed. His nephews and nieces are David (Kacey) Stanley and their children, Kassidy, Kye, and Kendal, Karen (Shilo) Capp and their children, Landon, Logan, Lucas, and MiKayla, Matthew, Michael, and Melissa Stanley, Donna Mae (Trevor) Huss and their children, Paxton and Holden, Dan (Teagan) Stanley, Diana (Rafe) Stewart, Aimee Frickle, Angie (Scott) Rosenthal and their children Avi and Aden, and Annie Frickle.
Memorial Service will be held at Seventh Day Adventist Church in Miles City, MT on Saturday, March 24, 2018 at 5:00 p.m. Interment will be held in the family lot of the Custer County Cemetery in Miles City, MT.
Should friend desire, in lieu of flowers, a memorial may be made to the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Miles City.
The family would like to extend a thank you to the Seventh Day Adventist Church for their loving support, friendship, and care they provided to Donny.

I have missed seeing you at visiting this past month. I will miss our encounters at the VA when you would come in for lunch. Don was a very gentle soul and always had a smile on his face. I will always remember what he would say when I joked and laughed with him, “Your alright Jim” — “Don you are alright yourself” and may God comfort you always.

To the Stanley Family,
We were sorry to hear about Donny. We have a lot of fond memories of him. Saw many basketball games with him over the years and enjoyed his comments. He was always looking for a good deal and we had fun trying to help him find the next treasure. We wish you all the best.

It is with regret that we say goodbye to our dear brother and friend, Don Stanley. He will be missed by our church family. We are thankful, in times like these, for the promise that soon Jesus will come, and “will wipe every tear from their eyes. Death will be no more; mourning and crying and pain will be no more, for the former things have passed away” (Revelation 21:4).
