On June 14, 2014, Emilie Magdalina Moos Hout, age 92, left those she loved on earth to join her heavenly Father and those who have gone before her. She is beginning the glorious journey with God the Father.
Emilie was born on May 25th, 1922 on a farm 3 miles south of Gackle, ND. The sixth daughter of John and Magdalina Klein Moos who were German immigrants. They learned the English language although German was the preferred family language. In 1928 Emilie’s parents moved their family to a farm they purchased southeast of Medina, ND.
Emilie attended school in Medina and graduated the 8th grade. She then worked on the family farm until 1941 when she decided to move to Miles City to be with her sisters and find work.
She went to work at Olie’s Café as a waitress which eventually was bought by her sister Betty and her husband Eddie Bitz. Later Emilie decided to work at the US Gardens Cafe also as a waitress, this is where she met her future husband Fritz Hout, son of Charles and Dora Hout. Fritz was working at the Crow Rock Coal Mine north of town, which after their marriage, Emilie joined him working there as the cook.
Emilie and Fritz were married on April 6th, 1947 Easter Sunday in the middle of a huge snow storm at the Four Square Church. Both Emilie and Fritz’s parents were unable to attend the wedding due to the storm.
In September 1948, Emilie and Fritz bought the Crow Rock Coal Mine and continued to work it during the winter months. During the summer however, they began to build fences for ranchers. They bought another coal mine in 1950 called The Rock Wall Coal Mine located south of Miles City and worked both mines in the winters and the fencing construction in the summers. They went out of the coal mine business in 1957 because the fencing business was growing and most of the people in the area changed to gas and oil for heating. The fencing business continued to grow for 50 years.
In 1962, Emilie and Fritz decided they didn’t have enough to do and bought Hout’s Trailer Village and Emilie continued to own the trailer court until its sale in 2012.
Emilie suffered a severe stroke in 1988, but she never let it slow her down, she continued to be an inspiration to all. Emilie enjoyed all aspects of life and was always up for anything. She lived a rich full life as a wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She will be greatly missed by all that knew.
Emilie was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years Fritz Hout and her infant son James Franklin Hout.
Survivors include children; Judy J. Carter and her husband, Gary, of Billings, Patricia Hout- Mackey and her husband, Herb, of Miles City, Dave D. Hout, and his wife, Melanie, of Worland, Wyoming, and Arlene Emilie Hout, and her husband, Dirk Semenza, of Great Falls, Montana, 8 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 17, 2014 at Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home with family receiving friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be at 10:00am Wednesday June 18th 2014 in the Chapel of Stevenson and Sons Funeral Home. My sincere condolences to the family of Emilie Magdalina Moos Hout – It was not the Creator’s purpose for mankind to suffer (Romans 5:12). May the Creator give you peace through his promise to comfort us (2 Corinthians 1:3, 4). Cherish all your happy memories and I hope that you are consoled by Bible promises of a hopeful future (John 17:3).
