Erma Miller, formerly of Glasgow, passed away on April 7, 2017 at Holy Rosary Residential Living, Miles City, where she resided since 2016; she was 94 years old.
Erma was born in Williston, ND to Paul Horab and Alice (Efimenko), both of whom immigrated to the United States from Kiev, Ukraine. Erma was one of six children, all of whom were first born Americans. After graduating from Williston High School, Erma completed nursing training at Mercy Hospital, also in Williston. In 1945, Erma moved to Glasgow and married Cecil Orville (C.O.) Miller, where together they raised their only son Kenneth. Erma and C.O. loved spending their time together with friends and family at their cabin on Fort Peck Reservoir, until C.O. passed away in 1987.
Erma worked many different jobs throughout her life, and routinely volunteered at Valley View Nursing Home. Up until June 2016, Erma could be found at the front desk of the Senior Citizens Center in Glasgow, where she had once been President, and had been named senior citizen of the year in 1995. Erma was also a member of the Elks and railroad auxiliary. Erma was known to be an outstanding bowler. It was not uncommon for her to bowl a perfect score of 300, which afforded her many opportunities to travel across the U.S. to participate in National competitions. Erma also loved spending her time crocheting, and playing cards with her array of lady friends. But no job or leisure activity was as important to her as the time she spent being a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and trusted lifelong friend to all those that knew her.
Erma is preceded in death by her husband, C.O. Miller of Glasgow; parents Paul and Alice Horab of Williston; brothers Ervin and Henry Horab of Williston and Edward Horab of Billings; and sister Elvina Vig of Williston. She is survived by her son Kenneth D. Miller and wife Charlie of Dickinson, ND; granddaughter Angela Hilliard and husband Richard of Miles City; granddaughter Michelle Miller of Lorton, VA; great-granddaughter Whitney Hilliard of Bozeman, MT; sister Emma Thorson of Williston; and lots of nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 22, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Glasgow. A graveside service will immediately follow the service at Highland Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Whitney College Fund at Stevenson and Sons Funeral Home, 1717 Main St, Miles City, MT. Should friends desire, condolences can be made to the family by visiting stevensonandsons.com.

I am so sorry for your loss. I only knew Erma for a few short weeks but I so enjoyed the time we spent playing pinochle at Extended Care. She had a great sense of humor and was a delightful partner. I will miss her.

The loss of Mrs. Erma Miller a cherished loved one is the most devastating experiences a family can face. At times, the loss may seem unbearable. Please know that there are people who care and more importantly Psalm 34:18 tells us that “God is near to those that are broken at heart. He is the God of all comfort. My prayers are with you and your family during this difficult time of grief.

To Erma’s family
What blessing Erma was to many. She was always up for questions, offered a free smile, and was appreciative of those who helped her. We spent many hours together working through trials and adversity with not so much as a complaint and a life lesson pretty often. Blessings and prayers to you all and Erma on her long beautiful life shared by many.

I grew up next door to the Millers and have always had fond memories of Erma. She was always friendly and pleasant.
I’ll never forget her little dog, “Whimpie”. Erma will always be part of my best memories of living on 4th Avenue South. She took great pride in her yard and grew beautiful flowers every summer. Ken and I often enjoyed shooting ‘hoops’ at the basketball hoop on Miller’s garage. Erma was welcoming and kind and would often have a cool drink for us. She was a wonderful friend and neighbor and will always be remembered fondly. I have spoken with my siblings, Carol, John and Neil and they share the same fondness for Erma.
Many blessings to Erma’s family. You’re in our thoughts and prayers.
