Noreen E. Frette, age 94, of Miles City passed away November 13, 2016 at Holy Rosary Extended Care.
Noreen was born February 7, 1922 in Glendive, MT to Walter Van Dusen and Amie (Brown) Van Dusen, the oldest of 5 children. She attended Terry High School graduating in 1941 as the Salutatorian of her class.
On September 6, 1942, she and Raymond Frette eloped to Fallon, MT to be wed in a double ceremony with another couple in order to share the expense of a wedding. Shortly after the wedding, Ray was drafted into the United States Army Air Corp. where he served from 1943 to 1946. While Ray was away, Noreen worked at the Roylee in Terry. After her children were in school, Noreen went to work as a secretary at Fort Keogh Livestock and Research Laboratory retiring after 19 years. She was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1968 and was a 48 year survivor at the time of her passing.
Mom was devoted to working crossword puzzles. She loved the challenge of tackling a new puzzle every morning while drinking her coffee. She also loved to crochet and made many beautiful afghans, doilies and decorations. She lovingly gave them to her children, grandchildren and friends. Together, Ray and Noreen loved to travel. They visited Hawaii, Greece, Canada and much of the U.S., but they relished their daily travel around town.
Noreen was active in the Order of Eastern Star with her mother. She was involved for many years and served as Worthy Matron.
In addition to her parents, Noreen was preceded in death by siblings Eugene Van Dusen, Doris Jones and Louise Young.
She is survived by her husband of 74 years, Raymond Frette; children Janice (Randy) Bergren of Havre, MT, Dr. Kent (Robin) Frette of Owatonna, MN and Rhonda (Mike) Schmitz of Miles City, MT; grandchildren Craig Brady, Daniel Brady, Jared Schmitz and Megan Schmitz; great grandchild Blake Brady; sister Eunice (Bernie) Flagler of Billings, MT as well as numerous nephews and nieces.

I remember about 28 years ago Ray, Noreen and her sister Doris came to Lemmon SD when we had a Stevens family gathering
Not sure how those girls were related to my dad but we had such a big crown didn’t get to talk to them much.
They all had a fun time there and were such sweet ladies never forgot them being there.
May your memories help you all through this difficult time. May she rest in peace. You are in our thoughts and prayers

Dear Ray and Family
Our thoughts and prayers for comfort go your way. Noreen was the secretary for the Physiology Unit for many years at Fort Keogh and then continued as my secretary and “right hand” during my tenure as Superintendent. What great memories! Always did her best and patient with the many and changing regulations and requirements. In addition to all that, a wonderful friend. Thanks for sharing her all those years.
