Frederick S. Rambur passed away unexpectedly on July 16, 2014 from complications due to hip surgery in Billings. Fred was surrounded by his wife of 43 years, Lotty, one of his daughters-in-law and his two oldest grandsons. Fred was 66 years old.
Fred was born in Miles City on January, 19, 1948 to John and Dolores Murphy Rambur of Baker, MT. Fred was the second of seven children. He was raised in Baker until his senior year of high school. From there the family moved to Terry where he met his future bride Lotty Sackman. After high school he went to two years of drafting school in Denver. In January of 1969 he enlisted into the army and served one tour in Vietnam as a helicopter crew chief. After Vietnam, Fred returned to become an aircraft mechanic in Helena. Fred and Lotty were married on June 19, 1971 in Fallon, MT. Fred and Lotty had two loving boys Tory Frederick in 1975 and Todd Andrew in 1980.
After returning home to Terry in 1978, Fred owned and operated a Conoco service station and then worked for Buffalo Rapids irrigation as a ditch rider. Fred reenlisted into active duty Army in 1983 and continued his military career until he formally retired as the Readiness Training NCO in July of 2000. Fred could never really retire. In order to pay for numerous trips to visit kids and grandkids, Fred worked as a hired hand for local farmers and for the Montana Highway department for 13 years. His last days were spent helping on his oldest son’s farm. Fred enjoyed all things outdoors including hunting, fishing, tinkering on cars, and building wood projects. One of his most recent projects was building a full scale playhouse for his only granddaughter.
As he enjoyed his final years, his most precious times were spent with his wife, Lotty traveling the world and spending time with his four grand kids. Fred was active in his community as a member of the American legion VFW, VVA, church office, a hunter education teacher for 20+ years, and a member of Terry town council. Fred was also actively pursuing funds and resources to build a Veterans Memorial park in Terry.
Fred was preceded in death by his parents, John and Dolores, and one brother Matthew. He is survived by his wife Lotty, son Tory (Shelly) and grandsons Colton and Calvin of Las Vegas, son Todd (Mandy) and grandchildren Addison and Deacon of Williston, one brother Howard (Kathy) of Saddlebrook, AZ, brother Mike (Brenda) of Garrison, ND, sister Sheila (Bill) Barteaux of Weippe, ID, brother Philip (Deb) of Helena, MT, sister Barb (Mark) Haas of Fallon, MT and numerous nieces and nephews.

Lotty, Tory, Todd, and Families,
There are just no words strong enough to describe the sadness that we feel. Fred was one of the nicest, kindest and best friends that a person could ever hope to have in their life. We feel so blessed to have know him and just can’t understand why such a great person that had so much more life to live and love to give was taken so quickly and so early. I guess it isn’t for us to understand but to accept that our savior has a bigger better plan. Thank God we have such great memories to help us get through this most difficult time,. You are all in our thoughts and prayers.
Love to All,
Norm and Darlene

We were very sad to hear of Freds passing, we lived across the street from the Ramburs when I was growing up, my Mother and Freds Father were double cousins, meaning Brother and sister, married their sister and Brother. Sebastian Rambur married Seraphina Loran, who was a sister to C.B. Loran who married Sebastians sister Anna Rambur, so always thought of Howard, Fred and the rest as cousins, I even babysat them sometimes as well as played with them, may God strengthen you all to be able to cope with these hard days ahead. Carola ( Varner) Moline.

My sincere condolences to the family of Frederick S. Rambur – It was never the Creator’s purpose for mankind to suffer (Romans 5:12). May God give you peace through his promise to comfort us (2 Corinthians 1:3, 4). We are promised a time when no one will say “I am sick” (Isaiah 33:24).
