Dear Cliff, Ruth and family,
This is a poem that speaks to me of Gordon; I would like to share it with you. He offered honesty and care in his work; a quality that we all know can be hard to find in his chosen field. It was always inspiring to watch him work. I know this is how he nurtured his relationships, with a quiet and understated care. He paid attention to detail and built both structures and relationships to last.
He was truly one of the gentlest men that I will ever know. I am blessed to have had him in my life. He gave me the gift of laughter when I needed it most and the gift of an unconditional friendship that weathered the changes in both of our lives.
It is heartbreaking when a truly good and kind soul leaves this earth. I know that Gordon is in a place of peace and joy that is his great reward. I can see and feel his living presence in the nature that he loved. I grieve not for him but for our loss. My thoughts and love are with you, his family. I wish I could say something to ease your pain.
Peace and blessings to you all.
Love,
Carrie Griswold
The Builders by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
All are architects of Fate,
Working in these walls of Time;
Some with massive deeds and great,
Some with ornaments of rhyme.
Nothing useless is, or low;
Each thing in its place is best;
And what seems but idle show
Strengthens and supports the rest.
For the structure that we raise,
Time is with materials filled;
Our to-days and yesterdays
Are the blocks with which we build.
Truly shape and fashion these;
Leave no yawning gaps between;
Think not, because no man sees,
Such things will remain unseen.
In the elder days of Art,
Builders wrought with greatest care
Each minute and unseen part;
For the Gods see everywhere.
Let us do our work as well,
Both the unseen and the seen;
Make the house, where Gods may dwell,
Beautiful, entire, and clean.
Else our lives are incomplete,
Standing in these walls of Time,
Broken stairways, where the feet
Stumble as they seek to climb.
Build to-day, then, strong and sure,
With a firm and ample base;
And ascending and secure
Shall to-morrow find its place.
Thus alone can we attain
To those turrets, where the eye
Sees the world as one vast plain,
And one boundless reach of sky.

Most of our time with Gordie was the last few months. He sure struggled to keep going. We will always remember that. We are sorry for your loss.

I am sorry to learn of your family sorrow. The death of a loved one is painful. If I may, I’d like to share scripture found in your Bible that may comfort you in some way.
Ec. 7:1 reads..A name is better than good oil, and the day of death than the day of one’s being born.
1 Cor. 15:42 reads..So also is the resurrection of the dead.
Ps. 37:29 reads..The righteous themselves will possess the earth, and upon it they will reside forever upon it.
Please also read Isa. 45:18.

Shirley Hanley says
To my dear friend, I will miss our long distant conversations, you in your freezing weather and I in the blazing heat. You are my brother, my confidant, and a truly genuine man of integrity. Gordon you are a person with a heart as big as the moon. A man with compassion that loves his dogs and his friends and would do whatever he could for them. A man that loves his family cares deeply for his Mom and Dad. When you lived next door to each other for as many years as we did, you can’t help feeling like family. Thank you for helping me with my son, Wayne; you were the man in his life and he needed that. You played football with him, basketball, and went to the lake swimming almost daily. There was so much more that you helped him with. You could say Wayne was Hillary and Lindsay’s little brother. He loved it when you came to his games. He loves you. I also thank you for helping me with all my animals and building them shelters. Hey remember the stairs you built, so we didn’t have to walk all the way around the property to go to each other’s house, it was like the ones at the rest areas you see when you’re on the road. The kids and Donna and I sure did appreciate that. We were tickled. You did what you saw needed to be done and did it. You even cooked supper for your family most of the week, and it was good stuff like pot roast, WOW. A man that would load up all the camping gear, shop for the grub, cook the food, put up the tents, take down the tents, blow up the rafts, bait the hooks, run to the store to get whatever more we wanted WOW what a cool dude. You sure left your mark in Texas, I run into people and they ask what Gordon is up to these days. Friends and acquaintances the same have not forgotten that good lookin’ guy that had the aura of a saint. You are so cute and such a wonderful person. We sure had a lot of fun, going to hear live music, watch fireworks, and go to all those parties. Man we did something every weekend. When the weather was bad we played board games and cards. Life was good with a friend like you. I know that Donna and the girls will miss you dearly and Wayne and I also. The bears will even miss a guy like you. One thing Gordo, It’s Never Goodbye, all your love ones will meet with you again so be happy and don’t worry about them, we will all cross paths again. The good is drawn to good, and you are just that my friend. Sorry, but I will still be telling you what’s up in my life. Hey, while you’re up in Pleasantville put in a good word for me. Until we meet again your friend forever, Shirley Hanley, I Love you Gordo!

Sorry to hear about Gordon. He and Kathy are together and happy and at peace. May God Comfort you all at this time.

Please accept my heartfelt sympathies. My heart goes out to the family. Death is something we will never get use to. In fact, God’s Word refers to death as an enemy. (1 Corinthians 15:26) Very soon our loving Heavenly Father, Jehovah God, will remove death once and for all and give us the opportunity to see our loved ones again here on the earth.
