Hermilo Cruz passed away on the early morning of December 3, 2015, his strong will finally giving in to a tired heart. His toughness mixed with a generous spirit made “Grandpa” a truly special man.
Hermilo is survived by his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews and his neighbors who are already missing him.
Cruz, as he liked to be called, was born on December 28, 1918 to Placido and Gabina Cruz, the third of six children in El Monte, Mexico.
In 1944 Hermilo married Adela Mojica in Crystal City, Texas. Together they worked on farms and ranches in Texas until their daughter, Blanche was born.
By 1949 the family had moved to Rosebud, Montana where Hermilo went to work for Burlington Northern Railroad, later moving to Forsyth.
After thirty years with the railroad, Hermilo and Adela retired to Miles City. More than anything, Hermilo enjoyed watching and talking baseball with his grandson, Ian Seabolt and working in his garden. For nearly fifty years he loved sharing his garden “goodies” with family, friends and neighbors. Even this year, at the age of 96, Hermilo was able to get one last garden in with the help of his “Garden Buddy”.
From his youth on, Grandpa took pride in getting up early, working late and providing for his family. One day in the not so distant future, God will awaken him from his well-earned rest, (John 5:28,29). Then, in perfect health, he will be given the chance to live in a cleansed earth. (Revelation 21:3,4). We can only imagine the gardens that Grandpa will grow then. Until that time he will be missed.
