Lana Bixby “Lightning Stands Woman” – Lana, 39, was born February 8, 1973, to Joe & Agnes Bear Sr. in Crow Agency, MT. Lana passed away on June 6, 2012, after a long battle with rheumatoid arthritis. She is now pain free.
She attended St. Labre Indian School in Ashland, where she excelled in sports and academics. She graduated as valedictorian in 1992. Lana placed 2nd at the state meeting of the Business Professionals of America, then went on to the national convention in Orlando, FL.
Lana married her high school sweetheart, Kevin Bixby, on December 4, 1992. From this union, six beautiful children were born: Taran, Derek, Britney, Christian, Devin, and Victoria.
She is survived by her husband and children, one special grandchild: Christian Anthony Bixby, her mother, Agnes, her brothers: Joe, Jr. (Charlie, Cindy, Jolene, Jolson, Jeniece, Jason, and Christine), Emery (Veronica, Emerlynne, Emery, Jr., Brenda, and Robert); sisters, Henrietta (Manny, Lynnette, BJ, Fred, Myron), Joetta (Tony, Destiny, Jordan, Lindsey, and Jace), Tina (Cordell, Kaydell, Lanette, and Sierra), Jeannette (Kyle, Monica, Taylor, and Quincy), Veronica (Miles, Andrew, and Jerry III), Mary (Stafanie and Dylan), Angeline (Alec and Kaya); sisters-n-law, Terri, Valerie, Donnelly, Tilly, Lexie, and Vita.
She was preceded in death by her son, Christian Lee Bixby, her father, Joe Sr., her brother, Tony, nephews, Dustin, Jeremy, and Garret, and niece, Alisa Bear.
She also has a very large, extended family including Walksalong, Bearcomesout, Bearquiver, and Long Jaw. We apologize if we missed anyone.
A traditional wake will be held 7 pm Sunday June 10, 2012 at the Bear family home near Ashland MT. Funeral services will be 10 am Monday June 11, 2012 at the Bear Family home.
Burial will follow in the Bear Family Cemetery.
