Larry Lee South, age 77 of Miles City passed away on June 16, 2018 at his home with his family by his side.
Larry was born in Blue Springs, Nebraska in the back seat of a Cadillac to Erwin and Francina South but he never owned one. He has four siblings Donnie, Ronnie, Patty, and Roger. When Larry turned three years old his family moved to Miles City where he grew up and stayed. He enlisted into the United States Navy on January of 1959 and was active until April of 1963 when he served in the Naval Reserves for four more years. Larry was a barber to many people around town for 54 years. He was committed to his clients and loved to share jokes and tell stories. He married the love of his life Dori in July of 1964, and in his words the best thing him and Dori ever did was have two children, Teza and Mike. In his younger days he was active in the Miles City Jaycees, jitterbugging (he could have given Dancing With the Stars a run for their money), playing pool, when he wasn’t busy with that or cutting hair, his love was to be with family. Whether it be watching horseracing, fantasy football (team “Clippers” with his son Mike), walleye fishing, camping, or just sitting on the porch drinking his velvet 7’s telling stories, it was with his family was where he wanted to be. He loved his family so much there was only minimal complaining (with a twinkle in his eye and a smile tugging at the corner of his mouth) about every stray animal that his wife or kids brought home.
Larry is survived by his wife Dori South; his siblings Patty (Ron) Williams and Roger (Barb) South; two children Teza (Jeff) Holland, Mike (Tanya) South; grandchildren Michael (Tina) Poppert, Alexandra Holland, Ethan Poppert, Jake Kruger, Katelin South, Shealee Holland; and numerus nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents Erwin and Francina South, his brothers Donnie and Ronnie, and his granddaughter Angel Holland.

Dear Dori and Family,
We’re so very sorry to learn that Larry passed. We have such fond memories of him cutting the boys’ and Dan’s hair. He gave Kyle his first professional haircut and when Kyle was older, Larry teased him “nice crop” about his curls! He was always so good to our family. Sending prayers for you all as you grieve the loss of a “one of a kind.” He will be missed.
With loving sympathy,
The Stanton’s

For oh-so-many years my go-to barbers were Larry South at Recreation Lanes or Joe Goldade on Main and and 8th. I really enjoyed being at Larry’s shop. The sound of the bowling balls in the background is something I will always remember. Larry was a very good barber and had a regular stream of loyal customers! I can also say that Larry was very proud of his family. He enjoyed giving me updates on what his wife, kids, and grandkids were doing. I had the privilege of having Dori, Mike, and Tanya as students at MCC. They were all a delight to have in class. My heart goes out to all of the South family at this time of sadness and loss.
