Pansy L. May, age 88 of Miles City passed away on September 19, 2012 at the Holy Rosary Extended Care in Miles City.
Grandparents gave us roots, parents give us wings, Pansy Lucille May gave us both. She entered her journey into this life on September 22, 1923 and what a journey it was. She was the 5th of eight children born to Alvin and Amanda Taylor. Pansy was born on the family homestead where she learned hard work and strong family values at an early age. While growing up on the family ranch consisting of 3,500 head of sheep, Pansy quickly learned about lambing, sheering and herding. Going to town was a treat as it usually only happened once a year and travel was by wagon. After attending a country school, she headed for the big town of Cohagen chaperoned closely by her brother Bud. She lived in the dorms and graduated from high school in 1942 with her brother Tex. In July of 1942 Pansy married Lyle “Red” McMillan. Pansy followed Red until he went to Germany. Her son, Laramie McMillan, was born while Red was serving his country. Shortly after, in March of 1945, Lyle was killed in the western front of Germany. She met her soul mate, Robert J. May, and they married in January of 1948. Bob and Pansy had two daughters, Ginger and Darla. In 1960 they purchased a farm in Kinsey where they raised crops, cattle, kids and grandkids. A weed didn’t stand a chance against Pansy. To supplement their income, Pansy worked at the Elmore’s Locker Plant with her sisters, Ada and Lillian, and her brother, Jimmy. After Bob passed away on September 19, 1993 Pansy continued to live on the farm until 2002. After this time, Pansy moved into Miles City continuing to enjoy music, laughter, and new friendships as well as many visits with her loyal brother Vern. Her heart always remained at the farm in Kinsey. Many enjoyed her beautiful flower gardens, fried chicken, and family gatherings. Her grandkids still say, “there’s no place like home except grandma’s.” Exactly 19 years later, Pansy joined Bob in heaven when he asked her for another dance, on September 19, 2012.
Pansy was preceded in death by her mother and father, Alvin and Amanda Taylor, husbands Lyle McMillan and Robert May, brothers, Tex Taylor, Bud Taylor, Vic Taylor, Jim Taylor, and two sisters Lillian McFarland and Ada McFarland and one great grandson James Lemon. She is survived by her son Laramie McMillan (Barb), Ginger Omland (Terry), Darla Woods (Mike), seven grandchildren Rowdi and Ryen McMillan, DeDe Steiber (Paul), Dena Lang (Rick), Shanna Murnion (Abe), Jay Woods (Kaci) and Amber Solomon (Zane) and thirteen great grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother Vern Taylor (Mary Lynn), sisters-in-laws Shirley Taylor and Eunice Taylor, brother-in-law Clyde McFarland and numerous nieces and nephews.

I know this is late but I worked with Pansy, Ada, and of course Lillian at Elmore’s. Good, good times. Also mentioned Jimmy to my high school math teacher and superintendent, Louis Schnebly. He remembered him well and laughed at Jordan’s beating of Circle in the fifties. Both Schnebly and myself were from Circle at the time. Memories to you.
