Rosa Ann Gamble Neese, a woman of love, grace and beauty whose life followed a path revolving around family, love and faith passed away on February 28, 2015.
The end is better than the beginning, sad for the family she left behind, but awesome for her. Rosa Ann Neese was born on August 11th, 1958 to Bill and Ann Gamble of Miles City, Montana. Growing up in Miles City, Rosa attended Roosevelt Elementary School, Washington Junior High and graduated in 1977 from Custer County District High School. Throughout high school, Rosa stayed busy by working multiple jobs that included the Thompson Rexall, the lunch counter, the Miles City Drive Inn and the Park Theatre. School was split in sessions so it was possible for her to attend school in the morning and work during the afternoons and evenings.
One night in the 8th grade, while ice skating, Rosa met her best friend and lifelong soul mate Don Neese. After dating for 3½ years, they were married on June 19th, 1976. Sweethearts for over 40 years! With the union of marriage they raised their two children, son William Roy (Buddy) and daughter Cori Ray. Her children kept her busy by being an active member in multiple community associations and organizations. She was a Girl Scout Leader for Cori and a Little Guy Football Mom for Buddy. She was a youth group leader for the First Methodist Church, a Mother Advisor for Rainbow for Girls, Daughter of the Niles, Order of Eastern Star Chapter #25, Montana Hope
Project, The Miles City Chamber, and not to mention 19 plus years with the Montana North Dakota All Star Football association. Rosa thoroughly enjoyed supporting her children throughout all their different activities as they grew up. During this time, Rosa worked at Midland Lumber, Conlins Furniture, The Miles City Star, KKRY radio, Notbohm Motors and returned back to the Star in 2001, until her death. Rosa loved her job with the Star and was very good at it. She could sell snow to a snowman. She loved the freedom her job gave her. It allowed her to visit with members of the community and gave her time to do her favorite hobby, shopping. She could never pass up a good sale. After all it was all about the image. Her co-workers were like family to her. They knew as much about her home life as her own family did. She greatly appreciated the relationships she formed with her coworkers at the Miles City Star.
Rosa and Don were blessed to see their children become adults and watch them marry their loved ones and make families of their own. When Rosa became a Mother-In-Law to Debi Neese (Buddy) and Travis Brothers (Cori), she thought it was the best thing ever. Little did she know how much her life would change when she would become a Nana to five beautiful grandchildren. Buddy and Debbie had two boys, Dylan (8) and Logan (5). Cori and Travis had a daughter, Ryen (7) and twin boys, Tristen and Avery (4). Her grandchildren were her greatest joys. She was fortunate to watch them grow. Anyone could see the joy in Nana’s eyes every time her grandchildren came to visit her or when she would travel and stay with them.
In 1998, as if Don & Rosa weren’t busy enough they decided to start a new hobby, Cool Breeze Golf Carts. They started the business with a few tune ups and fifteen years later became the Yamaha Dealer for the area, renting carts to the surrounding golf courses. Don was the worker and Rosa was the main supporter. One of their most cherished moments with Cool Breeze Golf Carts was when they donated a golf cart to raise money for the organization Scramble for a Cure in Broadus, Montana. The cart was painted with all the colors of cancer and the Cool Breeze logo.
On December 8th, 2008 Rosa was diagnosed with stage IV Ovarian Cancer. Everything she wanted was right in front of her and suddenly her life turned upside down. Rosa and her family faced the future head on. The numerous chemotherapy treatments were long and agonizing, yet Rosa never complained. She always had a positive answer when asked how things were going or how she was feeling her reply all is good. Rosa kept an upbeat attitude through the entire battle.
You never heard complaints of nausea, aches or pains. Rosa kept her job with the Miles City Star to help get through the days and years till the end, only taking off time for chemotherapy treatments in Billings. Rosa always lived life to the fullest; she enjoyed living and was always full of grace. She was comfortable with her bald head and stylish wigs.
Rosa was given a second chance in life; she was in remission for 18 months. Her close friend and cancer survivor, Cindy Reid , together founded the organization Wake Up & Lace Up. With the help of family and friends, they spent countless hours doing fund raisers to help others locally. At the time of Rosa’s death, Wake Up & Lace Up raised over $100,000., and helping over 50 families. Rosa walked with courage, showed compassion, understanding and hope but most of all unconditional love.
One of the greatest surprises Nana received from her children and grandchildren was in 2008, when she thought no one would be able to make it home for Christmas. They all surprised her by arriving at the house and spending the holidays with her and Don. The tears of joy over whelmed her and reminded her of how lucky she was to have been blessed with family.
In 2010, Rosa and Don got a cocker spaniel puppy, named Harlei. Rosa said that was the only Harley they would be getting due to her being sick. Harlei gave Rosa unconditional love and was always by her side. Rosa knew Harlei would be there for Don when she joined her heavenly Father.
One memory that Rosa cherished with her daughter, Cori, was when they traveled to Los Angeles, California in May of 2014. It was a trip of love, mother daughter time and just plain fun. They made an appearance on national TV when they attended an episode of The Voice. Rosa valued her relationship with Cori and she was very proud to have Cori as a daughter.
Rosa shared many memories with her son Buddy, as he was always there for her chemotherapy treatments in Billings, Montana. He brought lunch and strawberry milk shakes for every appointment. His presence and support meant a lot to both Rosa and Don. They were very proud to have him as a son.
Rosa’s older sister, Oralei Gamble Hoffman was there for whenever she needed anything. Oralei and her husband, Ray lived in Great Falls and traveled down to Arizona during the winter time. All Rosa needed to say was, “I want you to come home” and Oralei would be on her way. Oralei nursed Rosa back to health after her first surgery and round of chemotherapy. Rosa and Don visited Ray & Oralei in March of 2014 in Arizona. Rosa loved the feeling of real sunshine on her face and the 80 degree weather as she thought of the nasty winter Montana was having. She valued her relationship with her sister throughout the years.
Rosa’s older brother, John Gamble was another strong support throughout her life. John and wife Kathy lived in Miles City which allowed them to have a close relationship. He was always willing to listen to her concerns and troubles. Together they were care givers to their parents, Bill and Ann. He was always good for a laugh and hated being sticky!
Her younger brother, Roger Gamble, of Boise, Idaho lived too far away but Rosa knew he cared. Being 13 years apart Rosa helped teach Roger how to ice skate and other things. She remembers their Mom saying she isn’t going to even try to go ice skating because a friend of hers broke both her arms teaching her kids.
Lastly, her husband Don meant everything and more to her. Her nick name for him was Sucha. They were always side by side, doing everything together except work in the shop. They both enjoyed NASCAR, weekends at the lake house at Rock Creek, fast trips to Fallon and spending time with friends and family. Don and Rosa spent a lot of time cruising around together in their corvette. Rosa spent time cooking with Don and the Redneck Grill. Mostly, they just enjoyed being together.
Shortly before Rosa’s passing, she was given the opportunity to cross the final item off her bucket list – meet Ellen DeGeneres. Rosa was accompanied by her daughter, Cori, daughter-in-law, Debi, sister, Oralei, and two close friends Roxanne Harding and Melody Peterson. Rosa and Cori were sat in the 2nd row, which gave them a perfect view as they enjoyed Ellen. At the end of the show, Ellen thanked the audience for coming and quickly headed over to meet Rosa. She gave her a huge hug and they shared kind words. As tears of joy streamed down Rosa’s face, Cori told Ellen about this event being the last item on her bucket list. Rosa and her family are extremely thankful to everyone who made Rosa’s dream come true.
Rosa would have said her greatest accomplishment in life was getting the organization Wake Up & Lace Up on its feet. This organization donated to many people who were living with cancer and other medical difficulties. Her family would say that Rosa’s greatest accomplishment was the family she started, her continuous act of giving and the unconditional love she spread throughout the world. Rosa will always walk with her family, even when she is gone. They might not be able to see her but a living presence of her memory will be there forever.
Should family or friends desire, memorials may be made to Wake Up & Lace Up at 107 Balsam Street Miles City, Montana 59301.
Love is patient, Love is kind, Love never fails,
and now of these three remains –
Faith, Hope, and Love,
But the greatest of these is Love.

I use to say “I can’t even imagine” at times like these, but now I know too well. The loss is ours but for Rosa and Jeff their pain andstruggles here on earth are over and they rejoice in their well earned eternal life with our Father. The best advice I got from another friend & colleage who lost her husband was, “Be sure to take care of you! “.

Kay Kay Nice says
Cori , Buddy, Don, Oralei, John, Roger and Ann, I have no words to comfort your breaking hearts. I want to thank you for allowing me to visit last night at such a sensitive time. I remember the first time ever meeting and visiting Rosie, on the back steps of your house before you built the addition. That was the start of an amazing relationship and friendship.
Then Buddy, I was lucky enough to be one of the first people to come visit you after you were home from the hospital. From then on I was your, and then Cori’s babysitter and went many places with the 3 of you. She signed my senior yearbook, in a way that was just Rosa. (I will post a pic of it when I find it).
Finally, your mom would message or text me from time to time, mostly about my dad. Here she was worrying about him, when she was fighting her own battle! The times I was home and going to walk over to see her, I couldn’t because her white count was so low after Chemo. So I appreciate more than you know, inviting me in to see her last night.
She is a true legend, not just in Miles City, but everywhere -every person she met, she changed and inspired and her void will be felt for years to come-I hope you find comfort in knowing that I loved her, as did everyone and that the Lord has promised to never leave you and to give you strength.

It was those messages that shared an insight on how Rosa lived with cancer and was preparing for her heavenly home. We are sending a memorial to Wake Up and Lace Up.

It was only recently that I met Rosa and then only over the phone, when I was making arrangements last spring for the memorial service for our brother, Paul Holkup. But I could tell right away that Rosa was a special person; she was so helpful and kind. The memorial service notice she designed to be run in the Miles City Star brought tears to my eyes. It was beautiful! I thanked her and we visited for a bit. Now with reading Rosa’s obituary, I see that it had been created by an extraordinary woman. Thank you again, Rosa, for touching my life. I send my deepest condolences and heartfelt prayers to your family.

Kim Evans says:
I enjoyed Rosa’s company and learned how to find a good bargain from her as well. I remember out of the blue while working at the star she would bring the pressman and inserters donuts for breakfast and pizza when we had our busy holiday times. Her advice to others was simple but good “Keep looking up and keep moving forward” Very effective no matter where you are at in life. Rosa and Don in their relationship were a good example from others to learn from and I liked how he would dote on her and make sure she had everything she needed and wanted. She will be missed and was truly admired and Loved
