Ruth Bernice Pederson Ofstedal Hauso, age 88, of Jordan passed away on Wednesday, December 16, 2015 at Friendship Villa in Miles City.
Ruth was born on October 29, 1927 to Peder and Hannah Pederson at their home in Cohagen. She joined three sisters and one brother, with the oldest sister only being 10. Homes at that time were log houses. On December 14, 1928 their mother Hannah died from the flu, leaving Peder with five young kids. He was fine for a while and then started feeling tired. He got word around Garfield County he wanted Ruth, the baby, adopted and the others would go to Twin Bridges or another home. Not long after this, Andrew and Ruth Ofstedal came to see Peder about adopting Ruth. Shortly after, they took Ruth to their home at Snow Creek where she had a good life with them. Ruth joined their son, gaining a brother. Their father Peder died at an early age. He got word to the Ofstedal’s that he wanted to see them. While at the hospital in Jordan, Peder told Mrs. Ofstedal to keep the five children in touch with each other while Ruth sat with him in his bed. Ruth attended a one room country school at Snow Creek, then graduating from Jordan high school in 1945.
Ruth’s closest neighbor growing up was a handsome young man named Sidney Hauso and later they were married on November 10, 1945 with attendants Rose and Clifford Lervick. They moved to the ranch on Snow Creek where Ruth resided until moving to Jordan in 1994. To this union, four children were born, Linda, Judy, Susan and Jim. Ruth always had baked goodies and coffee ready for anyone who visited.
Some of Ruth’s specialties were making Swedish pancakes for all the grandchildren, crocheting for family and friends, gardening and entering items in the county fair. She also volunteered at the church, VFW and museum.
Ruth is survived by her four children: Linda Weisgerber of Miles City, MT and her children: Tricia of Hawaii and Jonathan (Tessa) and their son, Ethan of Oregon; Judy Wilbur of Nisland, SD and her children: Robert (Misty) and their children, Dylan and Hayley of South Dakota; Michael (Kody) of South Dakota; and Donald (Pam) and their children, Aubrey and Brady of South Dakota; Susan (Tom) Ochs of Laurel, MT and her children: Kathy of Montana and Jenny (Christos) and their daughter, Sofia of California; and Jim (Tess) Hauso of Miles City, MT and children: Mari and her children, Alycia and Ethan of Colorado; Jami (Travis) and their children, Eddie, Marie, McKynzie and McKinlee; Hannah (Marshall) and their son Alex of Colorado; and Sid and his children, Aiden and Klohie of Montana. Ruth is also survived by sister Ann Carroll and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Sidney, her birth parents, her adopted parents; sisters: Elsie Pederson and Helen Black; a brother Lloyd Pederson and a grandson David Hauso.
Visitation will begin Wednesday, December 23, 2015 at 9:00 a.m. at the VFW Hall in Jordan. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 a.m. at the VFW Hall in Jordan with luncheon. Interment will follow in the Butte Creek Cemetery at Brusett, Montana. Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home of Jordan is in charge of the arrangements. We’ve lost another one of the older generation of Brusett community pillars – and an original member of the Blackfoot Home Demonstration Club, or Jolly Dollies as Tuck used to call them. Whenever I bumped into Ruth, we had a great visit. Her sense of humor and genuine caring about old friends and neighbors were remarkable. My heart and prayers are with each of you “kids.” It’s never easy to say goodbye to a mother. May you find comfort in knowing she is reunited with many on the other side, and will be t here to greet each of us when our turn comes around. Blessed Christmas wishes to you and yours.

I am very sorry for the loss of your dear loved one. God has promised to, one day soon, eliminate death forever, along with all sickness, pain, and sorrow. (Rev.21:4) He has also promised to reunite us with our loved ones on a restored paradise earth. The Bible says he yearns to do this. (John 5:28,29; Job 14:14,15) I hope these scriptures will bring comfort to each of you.
