Verlene Simmerman, 98, of Hysham, MT passed away on October 31, 2014 surrounded by her loving family at the Rosebud Health Care Center in Forsyth, MT. On September 25, 1916 Verlene was born to William Walter and Ethel Campfield Wearmouth in Orient, Iowa. She lived on farms in and around Winterset, Iowa with her family. Whenever she went to town she had to go thru the Hollowell covered bridge. Verlene attended school in Winterset and graduated from Winterset High School. She worked for the Young Family while in High School and after her graduation. In 1937 Verlene Wearmouth married Maynard Simmerman. They moved to Oregon that same year where Maynard worked for the Shepherds on a farm for the next 2 years where Richard was born. Maynard and Verlene moved to Hysham, MT in 1939 where they raised their two children, Richard and Linda. Verlene was a homemaker and lived with her husband Maynard on the farm that his folks had owned since 1910. They have been in Hysham since 1939. Verlene was a member of the Local Eastern Star in Hysham, and then transferred to Forsyth. She was a member for over 50 years. She was a fantastic gardener and belonged to the Friendly Garden Club since it started in the late 1950’s. Entering vegetables and flowers in the fair was one of her delights. Verlene was a 4-H leader for 8 years. She enjoyed her chickens and her pets. She attended the Presbyterian Church. Some of her other hobbies included square dancing, painting, picture taking, embroidery and visiting with people. She especially loved when she had company. Verlene is preceded in death by her loving husband, Maynard; son, Richard of Kirkland, New Mexico; and grandson-in-law Jon Skinner. She is survived by her daughter Linda K (Robert) Smith of Hysham, daughter-in-law Katie Simmerman, 6 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, and 6 great great grandchildren.
