After the 8th grade he worked for Boyd Isaac, Francis Henning, Jappy Likes, Edgar Loomis and Keith Kibler. He hauled hay to Washington for Keith, where he met his first wife Jean Austin and her daughter Judy Kay. He also worked for the county mowing roads, ditches and spraying weeds. He married Leah Cole in 1980 and gained two stepsons, Quinn and Jed Jessen.
Sandy purchased the family ranch and he and Leah worked both of their ranches and commercial fished. He helped Leah with Central and Western Order Buyers when he wasn’t holding down the fort. He took over the Van Norman mail route when his Mother retired in 1988. He later hauled the Brusett route. He hauled the mail for almost 30 years. Sandy retired from the ranch, but continued to do his mail route up until the time of his death.
Sandy’s favorite pastime was dancing and playing music. He enjoyed working in the yard and helping his neighbors whenever he could. He liked to carpenter around the house. He helped to finish the log home that he and Leah lived in when they moved to Jordan in 2000.
