Mary Aileen Hagen, age 91, passed away Friday, April 15, 2011 at Holy Rosary Extended Care.
Mary Aileen Peck was born to Walter C. and Mary Heintz Peck at the family home in Ismay, MT on June 1, 1919. She joined a brother, Charles. Five years later Robert was born, but died in infancy. Aileen attended schools in Ismay until 1936, when her father, who managed the lumber yard in Ismay, was transferred to Richey, MT. Aileen was not happy about moving in her senior year of high school, and she graduated from Richey High School. It was there she met her future husband, Melvin B. Hagen, and they were married on August 21, 1937. Aileen and Melvin were married for almost 65 years until his death in June of 2002.
Mel and Aileen welcomed son Richard (Dick) in 1939 in Richey. They later moved when Mel began working for the federal government, first in Helena, MT and then later in Fort Peck, MT. Daughter Diane was born in 1943 and son John (Jack) in 1949. In 1953 Mel accepted a job with Midland Coal and Lumber and they moved to Miles City. Daughter Mary Jane arrived in 1957 to complete the family. In later years, Mel and Aileens home at 706 S. Lake in Miles City was the scene of many family reunions with their children and grandchildren.
Aileen was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, St. Francis Altar Society and Convent Keepers. She enjoyed bowling, knitting, crocheting, and flowers. As walking became more difficult she enjoyed reading suspense novels, crossword puzzles, and watching baseball and game shows. She also enjoyed the company of her dog, Buffy.
She is survived by her children, son Dick (Sue) Hagen and their children Tom (Nyla) Hagen, Martha (Michael) Black and Brigit Hagen; son Jack (Linda) Hagen and their children Joel (Kate) Hagen, Jeffrey and Seth Hagen; daughter Diane Hathaway and her sons Steve and Rick Hathaway; daughter Mary Jane Reiff and her children Jenn (Mitch) Jorgensen, Staci (Jake) Obie, Ryan (Jen) Zier, Kaitlin and Shelby Reiff. She is also survived by 14 great-grandchildren and her nephew and niece Bob (Mary) Peck and Susan (Tom) Mills.
Aileen was preceded in death by her parents, husband Mel, grandson Scott Hathaway, and brother Charles.
