On September 14th a Chief’s Child began her journey to the other camp to be happily reunited with her husband, parents, her twin brother, sisters, brothers, and her children and grandchildren.
Aladine Theodora Spang, 83, was born on December 6, 1940, just before her twin, Clifford Theodore SpottedWolf. They were born to Chief Patrick SpottedWolf and Jean Walters, they named her Vooheheva’e “Morning Star Woman”. Aladine grew up in Ashland Mt. with her family who enjoyed camping at GreenLeaf and traveling to local rodeos during the summer. Aladine was Miss Fort Keogh May 1959 at Miles City, Mt. Aladine attended St. Labre Indian School and was the first in her family to graduate High School in 1960. She began working at St. Labre and later worked at N.C. Tent Factory and N.C. Head Start before beginning her last career as a childcare provider. Aladine enjoyed all-night card games with her sisters and, later in life, going to the casino to play machines and bingo.
On January 25, 1966, she married the love of her life James P. Spang. Together they made their home and raised their family at Muddy Creek. Together they fostered many children and took Jeremey Foote, JonJon Foote, and Lawrence Neiss Jr (Theresa) as sons. Later in life James and Aladine were avid high school basketball fans where they enjoyed watching their grandchildren play sports. Aladine took pride and joy in raising her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. As a grandmother she encouraged her grandchildren to dance and enjoyed watching her great-grandchildren at powwows. They enjoyed 55 years of marriage. At the end of her life, Aladine showed her family her strength by always bringing the laughter and happiness even when she was in pain. She encouraged her daughters to support each other as they continue life without her.
Aladine is preceded in death by James, her parents Patrick and Jean, her two sons Darrell and Nathan, her daughter Kammie, all her siblings: Ruby Flying, Eldora Bement, Clarence “Bisco” SpottedWolf, James SpottedWolf Sr, Mollie Small, Josephine Cooper, and Clifford SpottedWolf, her grandchildren Kammie Spang, Leticia Betancourt, and Heavenly Sue LongJaw.
She is survived by her close relatives Susie Cain, Marcelline ShoulderBlade, and Mercedes Tallwhiteman, her five daughters, Rita (Cedric) Rowland, Denise (Manuel) Betancourt, Twittles (Joe) Bearrobe, Christina Spang, Gail LongJaw, and a grandson they raised, Riston (Sarah) Spang. Aladine is proudly survived by her grandchildren, Julian (Paulee) Hiwalker, Skyler Spang, Taylor (late-Casey Whitedirt) Spang, Miranda Spang, Cierra Headswift, Sheniece Betancourt, Abigail (Levi) Haugen, Jose Betancourt, Chelsey Spang, Kaylesha Wick, Kobi Wick, MaKenzie Bearrobe, Kylen Spang, and Kash Spang, and her great-grandchildren, Colin Finley, Athan Hiwalker, Taneya Brady, Katawna Whitedirt, Arthur Highwalking, Liyanna Whitedirt, Asher Highwalking, Casey Whitedirt, Leroy Brady III, Rhynne Spang, Addison Jo Highwalking, Lorenzo Bentancourt, Logan Spang, Adree Twomoons, Marcel Littlesun, Blake Twomoons, Ansleigh Haugen, Ayla Jean Highwalking, Eli Posey Haugen, Alonzo Betancourt.
Her extended families include: SpottedWolf, Walters, Seminole, Flying, Bement, Cooper, Small, Youngbear, Onebear, Tallwhiteman, ShoulderBlade, Yelloweagle, RealBird, Moccasin, and Birdinground
