Albert D. Loendorf, age 90, of Glendive, MT formerly of Vida, MT passed away peacefully in his sleep on August 22, 2004 at the Northeastern Montana Veterans Home in Glendive, MT.
Albert was born on August 4, 1914 at the family homestead near Vida, MT to Hubert and Christina (Neustal) Loendorf. He worked at various farms in the Vida area before going into the Army in November, 1941. He served the United States Army in the 583rd Signal Air Warning Battalion as a mechanic in Italy, France and Germany. Albert was honorably discharged in 1945 and returned home to farm/ranch near Vida. On October 30, 1950, he and Angela Dougherty were married in Wolf Point, MT. Together they farmed and ranched in the Vida area, until moving to Wolf Point in 1995 and then to Great Falls in 2001. In November of 2003, Albert moved into the Northeastern Montana Veterans Home in Glendive, MT.Albert loved to play baseball in his early years in the Vida and Richey areas with his brothers and friends. He enjoyed bowling, hunting and fishing. Albert was especially proud that he was able to teach his granddaughters to fish. He had a wonderful sense of humor that was apparent in everything he did.
He was very active in the communities of which he lived. He was secretary for thirty years of the Equity Co-Op Association, a lifetime charter member of the Elks Club in Wolf Point and a life member of the KCs, and a member of the American Legion. Albert was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and a lifetime member of the Wolf Point Historical Society. He served on the Vida School Board for several years, and was proud that he was there when they built the new school in 1956.
Albert is survived by his wife Angela of almost 54 years, of Glendive, MT, his sons; Alan Loendorf of Miles City and Arthur (Sandra) Loendorf of Billings, MT, his beloved granddaughters; Venissa Loendorf of Billings and Jacqueline (Brian) Pillman of Spokane, WA and a brother Charles (Cecile) of Wolf Point, MT and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 25, 2004 at Clayton Stevenson Memorial Chapel in Wolf Point. A Vigil service will be held on Wednesday, August 25 at 7:00 at the Clayton Stevenson Memorial Chapel. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, August 26, 2004 at 10:00 am at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Wolf Point.
