In Memory Of

Albert “Sonny” Barta, age 75, of Forsyth

November 17, 1944 – August 7, 2020

Albert (Sonny) Barta was born on November 17, 1944 at home in Belfield, North Dakota to Albert and Mary (Kudrna) Barta.  He was the third of 10 siblings.  He passed away on August 7, 2020 after a tough battle with cancer.

Sonny is survived by his loving wife Beverly (Rogers) Barta of 56 years; children Shane (Molly) Barta of Billings; Cory (Serena) Barta of Forsyth, Tina (Rocco) Toscano of Forsyth; Frank Barta of Forsyth; grandchildren Brennan (Charmayne) Barta of Billings; Taylor and Wyatt Wasserburger of Forsyth; Abby and Toby Barta of Forsyth; Sage and Cash Toscano of Laurel; great-grandchildren Travis and Paisley Barta of Billings; siblings Danny, Jim (wife Janette), Keith (wife Diane) and Allen (wife Janet) sisters MaryAnn Rausch, Shirley (Joe) Kemph, Linda (David) Calvin, and Rosie (Alvin) Stadel.

He is preceded in death by his parents and brother Clarence.

Sonny and family moved from North Dakota to Custer, Montana where he attended school.  He then spent 32 years helping run Steiger Farms.  Sonny’s family built many memories (and an outstanding work ethic!) while helping farm and irrigate.  He would tell you that only the best tractors are green.

Sonny loved collecting John Deere memorabilia.  Bev DIDN’T love having her house decorated in all things green and yellow!  His favorites times were spent fishing on the Yellowstone with friends and family.  Sonny was gifted with a wonderful musical ability.  He couldn’t read music but could play the piano, harmonica, and accordion.

The family would like to thank friends, family and the Bucks (Longhorn Bar & Steakhouse in Rosebud) for the support at the fundraising benefit last summer.   It meant the world to us to see how many people truly loved our Sonny boy.  As he would say “You are my sunshine.”

Funeral services will be held Friday, August 14 at 11 a.m. at Stevenson and Sons in Forsyth.  Stevenson and Sons Funeral Home have been entrusted with arrangements. To leave condolences for the family, visit our website at www.stevensonandsons.com. Honorary pallbearers are:  Dallas Steiger, Warren Wasserburger, Wayne Buck, Brennan Barta, Taylor Wasserburger, Abby Barta, Wyatt Wasserburger, Toby Barta and Travis and Paisley Barta.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to Friends and Family, PO Box 957, Forsyth, MT  59327.

I may have only been in Forsyth for 10 years but was befriended by Bev and Sonny (and family) as if I had lived there all my life. With great sadness, I send condolences to the Barta family and the community of Forsyth for the loss of a VERY fine man. God just got one damn fine fishing buddy.

Although time and distance have seperated us for many years now, we always knew where the other was. I can and have recalled many memories of times spent with Sonny and Bev in our “earlier” years…. All good. You will be missed my friend and brother (in-law)

When I think of Sonny I see him trying to hide in the booth so I couldn’t slug him!! His infectious smile lit up the room. His life’s story is in the faces of four of the greatest kids to come out of Forsyth! Bev, you are a role model for wives everywhere—love shines through you.
Our prayers are with all of you.🙏

Bev, Shane, Cory, Frankie and Tina – We are so sorry for your loss. Sonny was an awesome man. So many memories growing up with Sonny and all of you. Sonny could fix anything. Just one memory- I remember coming home from (somewhere that I don’t remember) but Sonny had run my 1960 model car into the shop and did a complete motor “fix up” – because he was just that nice. When I thanked him (lots) he just grinned and said, “ohh it wasn’t much”. Sonny’s grin, giggle and caring was always something we could count on. Sonny pulled My car out of the ditch – more times than my parents knew ! May God comfort you and wrap his loving arms around your husband and father. Sonny truly was wonderful person – he touched so many. AND I remember loving it when he took out the accordion! Love and prayers for all of you and your families . Terry
