During the early morning of February, 8, 2013, Albina “Beanie” Higgins passed away at St. Pete’s Hospital in Helena, MT after battling cancer for 1 ½ years. Beanie was in the comfort of family at the time of her passing. She was 75 years old.
Beanie Higgins was born in Ridgeview, South Dakota on January 4, 1938. She was the youngest of five children, three brothers and one sister, born to Christina and Valentine Vetter.
As a child, Beanie had many responsibilities on the Vetter farm in Ridgeview, South Dakota. Her family moved to Miles City, Montana in November of 1945. She played the organ and tuba in the band performances her dad and brothers lead at various dance halls. Beanie attended Sacred Heart School through ninth grade and earned her GED in 1980.
She married Roy Higgins on June 18, 1955. Together they raised three children and enjoyed dancing, playing cards, gardening, fishing, camping and their children’s sporting activities. Beanie, was actively involved in her children’s education, was a leader of her sons’ Cub Scout troop and also leader of her daughter’s Brownie troop.
While in Miles City, Montana, Beanie was employed as a seamstress at Miles City Laundry. She also worked at Red Rock Village, and the TLC Senior Living Center.
In 1994 Beanie and Roy moved to Townsend, Montana to be closer to their son, Wade and his family. There they enjoyed the view of the mountains, their continued joy of gardening, fishing and watching the Big Joe Polka Show and RFDTV. Beanie always valued hard work and the importance of community involvement so she sought employment with RMDC as a senior companion. She enjoyed the time she spent visiting her clients. She was always concerned about the well-being of others. She willingly dedicated her time, and herself, to helping those around her.
Albina Higgins was preceded in death by her parents Christina and Valentine Vetter, husband Roy Higgins, sister Irene Vetter, and her two brothers Valentine Jr. and Tony Vetter.
Albina Higgins is survived by her brother Pius Vetter; children Wade Higgins, Doug Higgins, and Dianna Jenks; grandchildren Andrea Tsitsilianos, Matt Higgins, Christina Higgins, Bryon Higgins, Lorissa Higgins, Scott Higgins, and Trevor Jenks; and great-grandchildren Yanni Tsitsilianos and Sophia Tsitsilianos.

Please accept my condolences. May you rely on the God of all comfort during this difficult time. (1Corinthians 1:3,4) He provides us with the hope of seeing our loved ones again by means of the resurrection (Isaiah 26:19 and John 5:28,29) We can trust this promise because it is impossible for God to lie (Hebrews 6:18)

We are so sad to hear about Beanie. Years ago, when Roy and Ralph worked together at Fort Keough, we spent many happy times at the Higgins’ house. Beanie was a warm and hospitable person who always made you feel welome.
Would love to greet you all in person to pay tribute to a wonerful lady, but we will not be in town on Friday.
