In Memory Of

Alfretta Ofstedal, age 99, of Circle, MT

January 14, 1918 – February 8, 2017

Alfretta passed away peacefully the night of February 8th at the age 0f 99 years old, at the McCone County Health Center.

Alfretta was born January 14th, 1918 to Joe and Maude (Clariage) Kountz in the Watkins Community near Brockway, MT. She was the fifth child in a family of six. She attended school in Brockway.  She was united in marriage on November 14th, 1935 in Jordan, MT  to C.L. (Venie) Mack.  They lived in Brockway a few months and then moved to the Fort Peck area where Venie worked on the WPA, building the Fort Peck Dam.  In 1938, they left to live in the Van Norman area on the Mack Homestead.  To this union, four children were born: Hazel, Hugh, Sylvia, and Dorothy.

In 1948, after Venie’s death, Alfretta and the children moved to Jordan.  On March 14th, 1949 Alfretta was united in marriage to Harry Allen Ofstedal of the Brusett Community where they farmed and ranched for about 40 years.  This is where the kids were raised and Harry and Alfretta enjoyed having the family visit.  In 1984 Harry’s ill health caused them to move into Jordan.  In June 2012 Alfretta moved into the McCone County Health Center.  She enjoyed her stay there.  We would like to thank the staff of McCone County Health Center for the care she received while residing there.

Alfretta is survived by three daughters: Hazel Meyer of Gatesville, TX; Sylvia (John) Trumbo of Jordan; and Dorothy Stephenson of Great Falls, MT; her daughter-in-law, Beth Mack; 4 grandsons; 6 granddaughters; 23 great grandchildren; 8 great-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, both of her husbands, her son (Hugh), grandson (Kenny Meyer), 2 sisters, 3 brothers, and 2 son-in-law’s.

A memorial service will be on Monday, June 26, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at St. John’s Evangelical Church in Jordan.   A luncheon will follow at the church. Memorials may be made to the McCone County Health Center, 605 Sullivan Ave, Circle, MT 59215.

We always used to joke that Great Grandma O was so ornery that she would outlive us all. Well, she sure did give us quite the goal!! I remember enjoying our visits with Great Grandma (especially when she let us play with her lava lamp!). I was always shocked to know how much she could remember. She never had to write down birthdays or anniversaries and (as far as I know) she never forgot a single one. We will miss her greatly!
