In Memory Of

Alice “Vonnie” LaVon Adair, age 88, of Hysham

July 23, 1936 – March 12, 2025

Alice LaVon “Vonnie” Adair

Alice LaVon “Vonnie” Adair, age 88, passed away on March 12, at Sweetwater Retirement Community in Billings, MT.

LaVon was born on July 23, 1936 to Phillip and Lydia (Berreth) Badure at Isabel, SD—the tenth of 13  children.  She attended grade school and high school in Isabel and college at Northern State Teachers College in Aberdeen, SD.  She worked at First National Bank in Mobridge, SD, taught in rural SD schools, and was program assistant/office manager at the ASC office in Timber Lake, SD before marrying Ramsey McKee Adair on September 14, 1958 in Timber Lake.

The couple moved to Hysham, MT in 1958 where Ramsey was employed with Mid-Yellowstone Electric.  LaVon again worked with USDA-ASCS from 1959-1973.  In 1974 she became Treasure County’s Clerk & Recorder/Clerk of District Court, serving in that position until retiring in 1994.

A member of Hysham Presbyterian Church, LaVon served as an elder and a deacon.  She also served as a Treasure County election judge for many years.  She was active in American Legion Auxiliary, Hysham Womens Club, the Wine & Roses Bridge Club, Montana Women’s Run, and the Treasure County Study Commission.  She was a member of the church choir and also performed with the Hy-Cs Sweet Adelines.

Before and after retirement, the couple enjoyed traveling with family and friends.  They celebrated 56 years of marriage before Ramsey’s passing in 2014.

In March of 2024, LaVon moved to Sweetwater Retirement Community in Billings and became involved in many of the activities there.  She was able to attend church regularly at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church.

Surviving LaVon are sister Violet Hagstrom of Chandler, AZ; brother Allen Badure of Belvedere, SD; and many nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of LaVon Adair’s Life will be held in Hysham on July 23, 2025.

What a special lady!! LaVon and Ramsey were two of our favorites who came in the restaurant! When we went to Mid-Yellowstone parties, I could sit and watch Ramsey dance with LaVon all night—poetry in motion!

We send prayers to their family to get through your loss, but God has United a loving couple!🙏🌈🙏

Vonnie’s family, was so saddened to hear of Vonnie’s passing
She was such a dear friend. We used to talk on the phone for at least sixty minutes each time we spoke. She and Ram were two of my favorite people. They made you feel good just being around them. Vonnie will be greatly missed especially her beautiful smile and little laugh.

Although Vonnie and Ramsey moved to Hysham after I had gone to college, I knew the two of them through family and friends and Presbyterian church activities. I was blessed to get to know her better after she moved to Sweetwater Retirement Community in billings, and I was able to provide transpiration for her to attend services and activities at St. Andrew church. I will remember long her strength and faith as she travelled her final months.

Vonnie was a wonderful sister-in-law. As close to me as my own sister. I will miss her and our long conversations a lot.
