In her late teens Alice moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota and worked in retail and bookkeeping. Alices first born is Jerry Cafelisch, of Forsyth, Montana, born to Alice and Earl John Cafelisch in 1939.

Alice married Rodney (Rod) A. Baldwin in 1946 and had a son Rodney D. and 2 daughters, Beverly Nile (Jack) of Forsyth and Roxane Hepker (Tony) of Choteau, Montana.Alice married Joseph R. Phillips in 1962 and had daughter Denise Carranza (Ruben) of Colorado Springs, Colorado.

Alice was known for hard work and being an entrepreneur. After spending her young adult years in Minnesota she moved to California where she met and married Rod. They then managed nightclubs and restaurants in California and Minnesota. In 1956 they managed the Tastee King in Miles City, Montana. They then moved to Forsyth, Montana in 1957 and bought The Speedway Diner located on Front Street next to the old Standard gas station. They increased the seating at the Speedway from 7 stools to 9 with a sign on the wall that read We have served 10,000 nine at a time. Alice made fresh cinnamon rolls and pies every day on top of a chest freezer. The next restaurants Alice managed with Joe were the Dairy Lunch, the City Cafe (currently the Speedway) and the Tastee Freeze (currently the Dairy Queen). In 1972 they moved to Powell, Wyoming and owned and operated The Pioneer Bar. Joe and Alice retired in 1979 and headed to Gordonville, Texas to pursue their love of fishing and a warmer climate.

In 1992 Alice returned to Forsyth to be closer to her family. Her first love was fishing and she could always be found with a big sun hat at the edge of a lake with a line in the water. She was a great cook, seamstress, and also enjoyed knitting and crocheting.

Alice was blessed with 5 children, 12 grandchildren, and 16 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Joe Phillips, son Rodney, brother Albert Horsman, great-granddaughter Brandi Lynn Boschee, and great-grandson Luke Clayton Blackwell.
