Interment: Prairie County Cemetery in Terry.
Alvin Walter Gackle, age 88, of Terry passed away on Saturday, February 5, 2011 after a short stay at the Prairie County Nursing Home in Terry.
Alvin was born on June 25, 1922 in Watkins, Montana, the son of Gottfried and Christina (Kalmbach) Gackle. Alvin grew up and attended Gackle Country School close to Watkins and attended high school in Brockway, Montana.He moved to his ranch southeast of Terry, wherehe farmed and raised cattle. He lived there until he semi-retired,then he moved to Terry.
Alvin enjoyed farming, planting and cultivating hiscrops, he enjoyed ranching,caring for his cattle and horses.He loved totravel, including visiting his family in the Pacific Northwest which always includedboating,salmon fishing (he was the only one of us that could ever catch the salmon no matter how hard we tried) andriding on theFerries. He liked to hunt in his beloved Montana. He enjoyed playing his guitar and accordionand singing the old western songs. He always enjoyed visiting with his familyand friends.
Alvin is survived by a sister, Eleanor Habel of Federal Way, WA; a brother, Howard Gackle of Watkins, MT; four nieces: Carolyn Larsen of Auburn, WA; Janice Gackle and Christel Denardo of Miles City, MT and Patsy Deese of Billings, MT; four nephews: Delton Gackle of Brockway, MT; Howard Gackle Jr and Tracy Gackle of Brockway, MT and David Gackle of Miles City, MT; and numerous great nieces and nephews.
Alvin was preceded in death by his parents, Gottfried Gackle and Christina Kalmbach Gackle; his brother and sisters: Oscar Gackle, Cynthia Gackle, Palma Gackle, Alma Gackle; two nephews: Duane Gackle and Eugene Habel; and a niece, Gloria Lala.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 17, 2011 from 1:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Terry. Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 18, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at the Community Presbyterian Church in Terry. Interment will follow in the family lot of the Prairie County Cemetery in Terry. Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home of Terry is in charge of the arrangements.
