Alvin Hirsch, age 78, of Rock Springs, Montana passed away on July 11, 2017 of natural causes in the arms of his loving wife.
Alvin was born on February 18, 1939 in Miles City, Montana to Carl and Hertha Hirsch. He was the oldest of five children and the only boy. Alvin attended elementary school at the U All School and continued his education through the eighth grade at which time he went to work for Reagan’s with Marvin Weber and they installed the air conditioning at the Mission School in Ashland, Montana. He then started a 27 year career at Doeden Construction. Alvin had many jobs while employed at Doeden’s and he enjoyed them all. Alvin met Barbara Abbott and on February 28, 1970 they were married in Miles City, MT. Due to his father’s illness, Alvin gave up his employment with Doeden’s and decided to take over the family farm and ranch in Rock Springs. Him and Barb moved to the ranch where they raised three wonderful children; Patrick, Carol and Stacie.
Farming was his life and he enjoyed working alongside his parents, wife and children. Alvin’s son enjoyed driving the tractor and combine and the two of them shared many memories during the yearly brandings. One of Alvin’s greatest accomplishments was his flying and he created many great friendships throughout the years. He attended many fly-ins that were held all over the state, but he especially enjoyed hosting the yearly fly-in at his ranch.
Alvin was an avid outdoorsman and he loved to hunt and fish. He enjoyed spending time with his fishing buddies and he always looked forward to the yearly trips to the lake. He had a lot of priceless memories that were created during the countless hunting and fishing trips and he cherished all the lifelong friendships that were a result of those fun and exciting trips. He loved watching western movies. He didn’t care if he had seen the movie once, twice or ten times; he would watch it again! He was very proud of his children and grandchildren and he enjoyed watching them grow up throughout the years. Alvin was always a hard-working and honest man with an incredible work ethic. He was a serious man who had no time for “funny business” when it was time to work, but he also enjoyed a good laugh.
Alvin is survived by his wife of 47 years, Barb of Rock Springs, MT; two daughters: Carol Hirsch (Bill Rantala) of Miles City, MT and Stacie Hirsch (Shannon Emeline) of Miles City, MT; three sisters: Irene (Vern) Johnson of Bozeman, MT, Loretta (Jim) Gaughan of Huntley, MT and Linda (Vern) McCants of Billings, MT; three grandchildren: Ashley (Levi) Burch of Miles City, MT; Carlie Kope (Kade Ellsworth) of Hinsdale, MT and Hailey Kope of Miles City, MT and one great-granddaughter: Hadley Burch of Miles City, MT. Alvin is also survived by several nieces and nephews: Renee Mullett, Rick Webster, Dwayne McCants, Marjorie Otis, David McCants, Lana Weigand and Tera Butler. Alvin is preceded in death by his parents Carl and Hertha Hirsch, his sister Virginia McCants, brother-in-law Jim McCants, son Patrick Hirsch and nephew Daryl McCants.
