Alvin William Waller, age 83 of Circle, passed away on May 28, 2014 at the McCone County Health Center in Circle, MT.
Alvin was born on January 6th, 1931 at the McCone County Hospital in Circle; the son of Elizabeth Ann Doughtery Waller and Theodore Floyd Waller. Alvin attended Circle School, living in the dormitory for a year. Alvin was drafted into the service at the age of 18 for the Korean War and served as an infantry machine gunner on the front line. Alvin was wounded in action on November of 1950, receiving the combat infantry badge and a purple heart. He spent the next 13 months having his limbs reconstructed. Alvin returned to the family ranch and began creating his own cattle herd. Adding to the farming and ranching was a fascination with building his own machinery and working with rocks, using his lapidary skills, making beautiful creations. He met and married Mary Francis Havlik in June of 1984. Together they worked and enjoyed trying longhorns for breeding heifers, a wise choice! After years of successful ranching and farming Alvin retired at the age of 75.
Alvin is survived by his wife Mary Waller of Circle; stepsons Michael Havlik of Brandenberg, KY and Matthew (Kathy) Havlik of Watertown, MN; his brothers Arnold (Vernice) of Billings, MT and Leo Waller of Circle, MT; and his sister Eldora (Ken) Berry of Billings, MT; and special nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Margery Koltes, and stepson Jeffrey Havlik.

Leo and Mary, we were saddened to read Alvin’s death notice in the paper yesterday. We will NEVER forget the amazing moments spent with him on the family ranch…and going through boxes of beautiful stones. He was a great guide to the history and geology around Circle.
