Amanda Gaskill, age 19, of Broadus.

November 19, 1997 – February 23, 2017

Amanda Lynn Gaskill, age 19, of Broadus, MT passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, February 23, 2017. Amanda was born November 19, 1997 in Miles City, MT to Andrew “Bub” and Carlene (Rogers) Gaskill. She grew up on the family ranch on Pumpkin Creek. Amanda attended Broadus elementary and Powder River County District High School graduating in 2016.  Following graduation, she attended Montana State University majoring in business.  Amanda had always considered being an elementary teacher until deciding on business as her degree path.

Amanda grew up with two older brothers, Drew and Garrett.  She had a feisty personality and was determined to keep up with her brothers from riding bicycles to horses to motorcycles and 4-wheelers. Although Amanda was very close to and enjoyed her brothers, she was so excited to gain a sister when Drew married Marni in September 2016.

In high school, Amanda was involved in several extra-curricular activities. She was active in Student Council for six years, FFA, and National Honor Society serving as the Vice-President in each. Amanda was very active in 4-H, taking animals to the fair each year, including cats when she was younger.  Amanda was a natural born athlete, and was involved in junior high track and field and played high school volleyball, and basketball.  Although involved in several sports, her greatest love was volleyball. She was especially proud of being a member of the first Broadus volleyball team to play in the State Tournament. Amanda received all-conference and all-state honors in both volleyball and basketball. She also was awarded the Lady Hawk Athlete of 2016.

Amanda loved all animals, but especially her 16 cats and always seemed to be holding one or having one on her shoulder as she was doing chores on the ranch. Her favorites could be called by name and one even rode on the back of the motorcycle with her. Amanda was artistic in many ways; as a young girl she would fill the sidewalk full of chalk. She also enjoyed drawing and painting. Amanda was taught to bead and made earrings that she liked to donate to events and give to people. Amanda enjoyed fishing with her brothers. She also liked boating, camping, and going to brandings. One highlight she thought was absolutely fun was going on skunk hunts with her family. Amanda would laugh uncontrollably and always had a way of making others laugh. She made her love of food known and the spicier it was, the better. Amanda was a very organized and on time person and took immaculate care of her possessions.

Amanda was preceded in death by her grandparents Andrew and Betty Gaskill, and Kenneth and Bernadine Rogers. She is survived by her parents, Andrew “Bub” and Carlene, her brothers Drew (Marni), Garrett Gaskill, and a special friend and cousin, Lawson McGill, along with a large extended family of aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Visitation will be held on Friday, March 3, 2017 from 4:00-6:00 p.m. at Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Broadus.  Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 4, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. at the Powder River County High School Gymnasium.  Interment will follow in the family lot of the Custer County Cemetery in Miles City.  Memorials in Amanda’s honor may be made to the Animal Rescue Fund, the Broadus FFA, 500 N.
