Angela Marie (Dougherty) Loendorf passed away July 31st in Billings, MT, at the age of 92. Angela was born on June 19, 1921, in Wolf Point, MT, to Phillip and Margaret (Latterell) and was the fourth of nine children.
Angela graduated from Wolf Point High School in 1939, and five days after graduation enrolled in The Presentation Sisters School of Nursing in Miles City, MT. She graduated as a registered nurse in 1942. Angela worked at Trinity Hospital in Wolf Point before she joined her four brothers and enlisted in the armed services. She enlisted in the Army Nurse Corp and was first stationed at Ft. Lewis, OR, before being shipped overseas to the European Theater. She was stationed with the 10th Field Hospital for about one month before her assignment with the 132nd Evacuation Hospital. She did state that at one point they had to “pack up” and retreat before continuing to advance during the Battle of the Bulge. It was during her assignment that she was trained to give anesthesia. She was honorably discharged as a 1st Lt in 1946 in Ft. Des Moines, Iowa. After the war, Angela continued her anesthesia studies at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN, and graduated in 1949 as a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist. She was working in Billings at Deaconess Hospital when she met Albert. They married on Oct. 30th, 1950, in Wolf Point. They lived on the family farm north of Vida and had two sons, Alan and Arthur. She worked occasionally as a nurse, but devoted most of her time to being a farmer’s wife and mother. Angela taught Sunday school at St. Ann’s and was a member of the Catholic Daughters and Vida Homemaking Farmerettes. Angela returned to work in the late 60’s being the anesthetist for Drs. Borge, Knapp, and Listerud in Wolf Point. She retired in 1985.
In 1995 she and Albert moved into Wolf Point and in 2001 moved to Great Falls to be closer to medical services. In November 2003 Angela and Albert moved to Glendive so Albert could live at the Eastern Montana Veteran’s Home. While in Glendive, Angela kept active by playing bridge, was a member of the Newcomer’s Club, the Gardening Club, Catholic Daughters, and had served as a director of RSVP. Angela and Albert bowled for many years on leagues and she also loved to play bridge, garden, and bake until all hours of the night for her family and friends. She taught her granddaughters to bake, sew, play cards, do crafts, and have patience.
She is survived by her sons, Dr. Alan Loendorf of Miles City, and Arthur (Sandra) Loendorf of Billings. She is also survived by her much beloved granddaughters Venissa and Jacqueline, also of Billings. Also surviving is a special brother-in-law, Ray Ogoley of Coos Bay, OR, and sister-in-law Marie “Tudi” Dougherty of Whittier, CA, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband of almost 54 years, Albert; brothers Eugene (Lefty), DeVere, Bernard, and Norbert (Doc) Dougherty; sisters Cecelia McCoy, Margaret Guadarama, Alice Van Dyke, and Kathleen (Katie) Ogoley.

Angela was my favorite aunt – possibly because she was the only one that I saw more than a couple times. I have very fond memories of the farm and Angela and Al, Alan & Art. She led a good life. She will be missed, but will be remembered by many.
Bill and Kris Sampson says
Art and Sandy,
We have many wonderful memories of Angela, what a kind a gentle lady she was. One of the memories was when Shawna was 6 months old and had to have surgery, I remember Angela coming into the room to get her…looking me in the eye and telling me she would take good care of her. Loved that lady. Our thought and prayers to you all.
Anna Dew says
My mom Anna met Angela through the Senior Center and really enjoyed visiting and knowing her. She is saddened by her passing and extends her sympathy to the whole family

Angela and I shared many good times together while she lived in Glendive. We played Bridge, visited the Art Gallery at least once a month, laughed together often, and shared Sunday dinners after we had both lost our husbands. What a delightful lady she was! Miss you girl!
Myrna Kintz says
Angela and I shared a love of herbs and all things Irish and enjoyed attending the Celtic Celebration in Glendive. I also enjoyed a few bridge games, the Art Gallery and Community Concerts with Angela. We have and will continue to miss her in Glendive.

My sincere condolences to the family and friends of Angela Marie Loendorf – I am sorry to hear of your loss. May you find comfort in many beautiful memories and talents of Mrs. Loendorf at this difficult time. The Bible reassures us that it was not God’s purpose for humans to suffer (Romans 5:12) and gives us hope that soon the Creator will end all suffering, pain, and death. (Revelation 21:4) Also we have the hope of being with our loved ones when they are resurrected (John 5:28-29). The promise of Paradise, the perfect conditions God originally intended for mankind in the Garden of Eden will be fulfilled including God’s “will being done as in Heaven also up on Earth” (Matt 6:9, 10). It is hoped that you are comforted by the promises in the Bible. (John 17:3).
