Interment: Eastern Montana State Veteran Cemetery in Miles City
Lora "Angela" Shafer, age 77, of Miles City passed away Sunday, January 23, 2005 at her home in Miles City.
Angela was born in Wheatland, Wyoming on September 9, 1927, the daughter of Leroy Miles and Elizabeth (Brain) Brown. She was raised and educated in Chugwater, Wyoming and graduated from high school there in 1945. While attended school, she worked at her parents restaurant. She then attended college at the University of Wyoming in Laramie where she went on to become a teacher. In 1943, she met the love of her live, Andrew Shafer, but in 1944 he was sent to fight in World War II. Upon his return, they were married on April 6, 1947. She continued working in the family restaurant until 1948, upon which time they moved to the Jordan Ranch where they worked until moving to Montana on October 1, 1958 to run the Jordan Ranch. In 1967, she moved into Miles City for her daughters to attend school. In 1969, her and Andy made Miles City their permanent home. She began working as a secretary for the Custer County Health Department retiring from there in March of 1990 after 19 years of service. Angela enjoyed reading, taking care of her roses and house plants, playing cards, and doing crossword puzzles. She especially loved spending time with her family and her dog Astro.
Angela is survived by her husband of 57 years Andy Shafer of Miles City, MT; two daughters: Patti Jo Hagen and her husband Dan of Henning MN and Robin Jung-Schatz and her husband Wayne Schatz of Dickinson, ND; seven grandchildren: Kristie (Greg) Fuchs of River Falls, WI; Andy & Elizabeth Hagen of Henning, MN; Jason and Danielle Jung of Dickinson, ND; Andrea (Ryan) Jung-Diede of Dickinson, ND; and Whitney Stratton of Dickinson, ND; and five great grandchildren: Aidan and Soren Fuchs of River Falls, WI; Jackson and Abigail Diede and Gage Jung all of Dickinson, ND.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, January 27, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. at Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Miles City. Interment will follow in the Eastern Montana State Veteran Cemetery in Miles City.
