In Memory Of

Anita Whiteman, 51, of Lame Deer

July 8, 1962 – November 29, 2013

Anita Ann Whiteman (aka Big D/ Deta), 52 of Lame Deer, Mt went to be with the Lord on November 29, 2013, greeted and welcomed by many family members.  Anita was born on July 8, 1962 to our wonderful parents Frank Whiteman, Jr and Victoria Wounded.

She was given her Indian name by Annie Limberhand Voe’ameohtseva’e “Walking Woman”, who is also her close auntie. Annie was also like a mother to Anita and was always there when she needed her.

Anita loved to help everyone; she had a BIG loving heart.  She always welcomed everyone into her house, especially her nieces and nephews, sisters, and grandbabies.    What was hers was theirs too.  She basically had an open door policy and if there was room to bed down you could stay.

Anita attended Lame Deer Public School and enjoyed babysitting for family and friends. Anita loved to play volleyball, do beadwork, but her greatest hobby was taking pictures of family and friends. Her mother Vicki would always buy her film and you knew Anita would always had a camera. Growing up Anita and her siblings attended Lame Deer Mennonite church and grew up with Pastor Joe Walksalong, Sr and his family.  Deta (as we all knew her) was like a mother to her younger siblings, she cooked, cleaned and cared for them while their mother Vicki was at work to support her 8 children.  Her sisters enjoyed her braiding and fixing their hair. Anita worked as a P.C.A. for 6 years and also was a foster parent while living in Hardin.  She also worked for the Lame Deer Public School as a bus monitor for 3 years.

Anita loved to visit with her relatives, whoever stopped by her house.  She loved to laugh and tell stories and smoke her cigarette while visiting or just taking a break. She loved to cruise around on her car named Gravy (which ran better than her new cars) and park under the trees. Anita loved to listen to her music, she was always playing Nakoa Heavy Runner, Jim Felix, Creedence,  Oldies but Goodies, it didn’t matter if they were cassettes or CD’s she would find a way to play them. If anything, you weren’t allow to bother her jams, as she would say.

Anita had 5 children, whom she loved dearly, 2 daughters- Violet Rose Whiteman and Arissa Bighawk,    3 sons-Cordero Whiteman, John Knowshisgun Jr and Zachary Knowshisgun all of Lame Deer.  Anita loved and cherished her grandchildren Jonita Zona, Ma’Kyla Ann, De’Quan, Zayden Malik, Tay’shawn Marv, Leila Shane, Natasha Rose, Victory, Victoria Grace, Blake, Brian Jr., Sadie Ruth, Keynen, Madison, and Amiyah G, Mich’ela, Sadie, Selena, Damon, Rae Rae, and the twins Detrich and Dyron Shoulderblade.

She is survived by her sisters, Irene (Candy) Red Cloud of South Dakota, Janice (Ernie) Surles of Butte, Mt, Francine Whiteman of Lame Deer, Dana Whiteman of Billings, Mt, and Valentine (Bernidine Jr.) Whiteman of Lame Deer, and a brother Frank Whiteman III (Zeniada) of Lame Deer, Mt.
