Annie was born 100% Scotch on March 2, 1923 in Miles City, MT to Kenneth and Katie (McRae) MacKerlich. She arrived at the Family Sheep Ranch on Sheep Creek (between Forsyth and Colstrip) via horse and wagon. This is where she was raised and learned to shoot rattlesnakes, ride horseback, walk to and from school, and raise a garden. Annie survived the 30´s, attended Country School and then High School in Colstrip where she graduated in just 3 years. She excelled in running track and playing basketball at a lean 5´8" and 126 lbs. She worked one summer at Ma Perkins Cafeé in Cook City, MT.
On November 1, 1942, Annie was married to Floyd Dowlin in Helena, MT. They lived in Texas, Colstrip, Dillon, Butte, Whitehall, and in 1966 they settled in Forsyth at the ranch on Armells Creek. While living in Butte, Annie was a member of the Ladies of the Moose Lodge. She was a wonderful Den Mother and had fond memories of working with the Cub Scouts. She loved her children and did her best by doing a variety of jobs to take care of her family. One of her favorite jobs was as a bookkeeper at the TV cable company. Her memory was like a record book, always remembering everyone´s birthdays and making sure everyone received a birthday card. She enjoyed raising chickens and loved watching her beautiful peacocks. Annie´s last years were hampered by macular degeneration. She enjoyed visiting with friends, phone calls and audio books, sometimes staying up all night listening to them.
Annie was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her infant son Dale and son Charles Douglas (Doug).
She is survived by her children, Sandy Dowlin, Kerry (Bob) Downing, Wanda Dowlin, Buck Dowlin and Robin Dowlin, as well as her sister Mary Margaret Cross, 13 Grandchildren, 23 Great Grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephew.

Annie was one of a kind. She had a great sense of humor. I loved listening to her stories of the pranks her son’s played on her. They broke the mold when she was born. We will miss her. And I sure wish I would have come and visted her before it was to late. Life should not be so busy that we can’t take the time.
