Tony was born in Grassy Butte, North Dakota on March 8, 1918, the son of Barbara and Frank Kowis and passed away on August 23, 2011. He was one of 7 children born to Barbara and Frank -- Valley, Bibe, Minnia, Ralph, Charlie and Allouice - all having since passed away except for sister Allouice who resides with a granddaughter in Cheyenne, Wyoming.
Tony came as a small boy to Montana moving to different places where his parents farmed, finally settling in Carterville. Having married Ellen Strong at Hardin, Montana in February 1941, they took over the farm when Tony´s father died in the fall of 1941 and continued to farm/ranch until he retired at age 65. One daughter, Linda, was born on October 21, 1951.
Easy to laugh with a yearning to live life, Tony enjoyed his retirement. A perfect day would include a round of golf at the Forsyth Country Club with good friends and sharing a cold beer and burger. He and Linda enjoyed his first rafting trip on the Snake River in Idaho with his nephew, a trip to Disneyland riding each ride at least twice and many visits to Portland, Oregon, Linda´s home, to golf, to boat on the Columbia River and to bury his toes in the sand at the coast.
When his health would no longer allow him to golf, Tony moved to Portland in April 2005 to an adult foster care a couple of miles from Linda. Until several months before his death, they spent several days a week continuing to explore Portland, sometimes stopping for a burger and a cold beer, enjoying being father and daughter. Although not having had the opportunity to return to Forsyth, Tony´s home was Montana and he never forgot his Montana friends.

Linda, you are right when you said your Dad always had laughter in his life. But, I will always remember what a kind and gentle soul that he was. We will not forget the memories of sharing several Thanksgivings together and how he always loved his pumpkin pie at the end of dinner. You will continue to be in our thoughts and please know that we will always be here if you need us.

Newell has many fun memories of Tony – sharing his TV (when Newell couldn’t get TV at the ranch). Newell would watch the programs and Tony would sleep through them. All the card games we had together – nearly every night! He was a good friend and will be missed!
