Arlene Spencer Ogdahl, age 80, of Miles City passed away on Wednesday, July 16, 2003 at the Shady Lane Assisted Care Living in Miles City.
Arlene was born in Faith, South Dakota on July 19, 1922 the daughter of Ted and Mary (Heron) Spencer. She attended country school in Faith where she graduated from high school. Arlene then attended college in Spearfish, South Dakota where she received her teaching degree. She then taught grade school for many years. Arlene married George Thomas Ogdahl in Miles City, Montana on December 31, 1945. She and George trailed their cattle from South Dakota in 1947 and settled on their ranch in the Pine Hills.
Arlene loved to garden growing both vegetables and flowers. She loved horses and loved to ride and gather cattle, she also owned racehorses. Arlene enjoyed playing violin and piano and she took up skiing later in life. She always kept a good home for her family.
Arlene is survived by her husband George of Miles City, MT; a son, Monte of Santa Fe, NM; two daughters: Mary Ogdahl of Miles City and Kalispell, MT; and Bev Axelsen of Livingston, MT; a brother, Gene Escott of Faith, SD; three sisters: Ella Schroeder of Pasco, WA; Mary Lou King of Faith, SD; and Jenney Lee Butt of Presho, SD; and three grandchildren: Mara Mercer of Kalispell, MT; Lars Axelsen of Bozeman, MT; and Peter Axelsen of Bend, OR.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a son Tommy in 1991, a grandson Zailm in 1987, a sister, Ellen Reed; and two brothers: Melvin Spencer and Jerry Escott.
Visitation will be held on Monday, July 21, 2003 in the chapel of Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Miles City. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, July 22, 2003 at 2:00 p.m. at the First United Methodist in Miles City. Interment will follow in the Eastern Montana State Veteran Cemetery in Miles City.
