Aslaug Emilie Undem, age 93 of Glendive, formerly of Circle, MT graduated from this life December 5, 2006 at the Eastern Montana Veterans Home in Glendive.

Aslaug was born on August 9, 1913 in Glendive, MT. to Sverre L. and Jorine (Tunheim) Undem. She spent her first 18 years in Montana on the Undem ranch east of Circle.

She graduated from Circle High School in 1932. After graduating from Fairview School of Nursing in Minneapolis, MN. she enlisted in the Navy Nurse Corps obtaining the rank of Lt. j.g. and served during World War II as a Ward Administrator. After the war she returned to school, graduating from the University of Minnesota with a B.S. in Nursing, and joined the VA Nursing Service. As a VA nurse she served in the following positions: staff nurse, instructor and as Associate Chief, Nursing Service of Education. These positions she held while serving in the Veterans Hospitals in Ft. Meade, SD, and Sheridan, WY. While in Wyoming she was a faculty member of the University of WY. After twenty-seven years of government service, she retired to Phoenix, AZ. Although retired she continued to serve those in need. She was known as the volunteer resident nurse, in the gated mobile home park in which she lived, and would travel to homes in her electric golf cart to take blood pressures and help with medications etc. No call for help went unanswered. This included nursing and mission work with inmates in jails and prisons in the areas in which she lived.

She was a charter member of First Lutheran Church in Circle later transferring her membership to the church in Sturgis, SD, and finally Trinity Lutheran Church in Phoenix, AZ. She was a member of the American Nurses Association and the American Association of University Women.Nursing, teaching and church work were her interests, along with her family.Aslaug spent her formative years in rural Montana and credited any success she attained to her Lord, her parents and others in her home area.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister; Ingrid Willoughby of Vida, and brothers; Louis Undem and Rev. G.E. Undem of Circle. She is survived by a sister-in-law Rachel (G.E.) Undem of Circle and four nieces and six nephews and many grand and great grand nieces and nephews.
