Audrey Michaeleen Groff, 77 passed away peacefully on March 10, 2016 at St. Vincent Hospital in Billings, MT surrounded by her family.
Audrey Michaeleen was born on June 23, 1938 to Barbara and Fredrick Buckley in Whiteside Illinois. Audrey was 1 of 7 children. The family moved to Arizona were she attended South Point Catholic School. She married Richard Groff in 1964 and together they lived in Riverside, California until 1996 when they moved to Broadus Montana. Where she love living for the last 20 years.
Audrey was a very active women. Not only was she a wonderful caring mother of her children. She was a manager at House of Fabrics and Newberry’s, nursing aid, school aid and waitress. In Broadus she worked at the visitor center, which was her favorite job of all.
She was multi-talented, she loved sewing, crafts, gardening, making quilts for all her family. She also loved to sit by her living room window where she could watch all the many different birds. Her recent favorite was the magpie bird.
Michaeleen leaves behind her husband of 51 years, Richard E. Groff, 8 children, Robert (Sharon) Smith, Lucinda (Mark) Skinner, Debra (David) Jorgensen, Norman (Juanita) Smith, Richard F. Groff, Denise (Keith) Stocker, Joseph (Wanda) Smith, Jennifer (Scott) Lambert. She is also survived by 21 grandchildren and 40 great-grandchildren, 1 sister, numerous nieces and nephews, and many friends.
Rosary and vigil services were held on March 13, 2016 at 6:00 p.m. at St. David’s Catholic Church in Broadus, MT. Rite of committal will be held at a later date. 5-1-2016…..I just learned of Michaeleen’s passing. My prayers and thoughts to Dick, their children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
Although I’ve only known Michaeleen and Dick for about 10 years, I remember our first meeting as it was just yesterday.
My friend and I were enroute to my home in Washington and stopped at the visitor center on SR 212. We chatted with a lady for awhile and I asked if she knew of anywhere we could shoot prairie dogs.
Without hesitation, she drew a map and gave us instructions to go back east on SR 212 and turn into a long driveway on the right.
I asked who we should check with and she said “you just did, my name is Michaeleen, and that’s my house”. “Just put my dog on the deck and lock the gate,befor you start, he likes to bring them to the house”.
That was the start of our friendship with Michaeleen and Dick. When we visited, we would talk about our “growing” families, her quilts, and her hobby of tracing genealogy.
I will miss her soft voice and quick smile…
