Audrey’s Funeral Service
Audrey May (Wolf) Sasse, at the age of 87, passed away peacefully on May 12, 2024, at Holy Rosary Hospital in Miles City, Montana.
Audrey was born on February 28, 1937, in Beulah, North Dakota, the fourth of five children born to Herbert and Lydia (Miller) Wolf. She had one older sister, Geneis, one younger sister, Carrie and two older brothers: Jerry and Garvin. Audrey lived her childhood in Beulah. She graduated from Beulah High School in 1958. Audrey was full of energy, very independent, adventurous, social, and topped with just a little sass. There are many stories and a few scars to verify it all.
After graduation, Audrey took secretarial courses in Bismarck, North Dakota. Shortly after, she married Herbert Sasse on June 16, 1959. Together they raised four children: Valerie, Vicki, Troy, and Vanessa. Their family adventure began in Mandan, North Dakota where they lived for 10 years. They then lived in Sheridan, Wyoming for 5 years, Glendive, Montana for 11 years, and finally landed in Miles City, Montana where they stayed. All the moves were propelled by Herbert’s job with Montana-Dakota Utilities. No matter where they were, Audrey found a niche. She was always involved in the community, had a big group of friends, found jobs to do and groups to join. Her jobs ranged from secretarial, to personal home and commercial cleaning, to Avon lady and babysitting. The position that she loved the most was being a preschool aid for Trinity Lutheran Preschool in Miles City. Audrey reminisced and talked about that experience all the way to the end. She often stated that she wished she would have gone to school to be a teacher. She would have been a kind, fun, and memorable educator.
Being a kid at heart and living life to the fullest was Audrey’s specialty. She was the mom and grandma that danced in the rain, made mud pies, rode motorcycles, went out for late night snacks, and embraced new experiences. Audrey adored holidays, decorating and celebrating each one, creating numerous memories for all her loved ones. She had a fierce love for God and enjoyed being in Bible study groups. She was a devout member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Miles City. Her church and its members meant a lot to her. In her later days, watching livestreamed services made her smile like nothing else could.
Socializing and being part of groups was also a big part of Audrey’s life. She was often part of card groups, Bible study gatherings, book clubs, church choirs, bowling teams and camping clubs. For many years she was an active member of Red Hatters, Jaycees and Good Sams Club. Her most notable membership was being a 49-year member of Beta Signa Phi Sorority. All these activities created lasting friendships and connections.
Above all, family was most important to Audrey. She loved her family and enjoyed spending time with them. Audrey and Herb did a lot of camping and exploring together. They spent 8 winters living in Mesa, Arizona, which they both loved. After Herbert’s passing in 2010, Audrey continued to go to Mesa in the winter months to stay with her sister, Geneis. Geneis would then come to Miles City and stay with her. These were some of Audrey’s favorite times as they had many fun adventures together, often including their younger sister, Carrie.
Audrey’s quick smile, kindness, and ability to talk to anyone who would listen will be remembered and missed.
Audrey is survived by her children; Valerie Sasse of Billings, Montana, Vicki (Wendy) Thompson of Loveland, Colorado, Dr. Troy (Jolie) Sasse of Dunkirk, New York and Vanessa (Ed) Gruba of Miles City. Her grandchildren; Scot (Amy) Fulton, Bryan Fulton, Cortney Fulton, Cassie (Dustin) Kindred, Jacob Bohlmann, Katia Sasse, Sigrid Sasse, Lindi Sasse, Alexis Gruba, and Mikenna (Brenden) Williams. Her great grandchildren; Zackerie Fulton, Gaberial Fulton, Maktin Cozzins, Daxel Sparks, Gretchen Kindred, Micah Kindred, Georgia Williams, and Blayke Williams. Her sisters; Geneis Brunmeier of Mesa, Arizona and Carrie (Myron) Hafner of Beulah, North Dakota. Her sister-in-law Jan Wolf of Billings, Montana. Her numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and many good friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband Herbert Sasse, parents Herbert and Lydia Wolf, brothers Dr. Jerry Wolf and Garvin Wolf, brother-in-law Ruben Brunmeier, and granddaughter Breanna Gruba.
Should friends desire, memorials may be made In Audrey’s name to the Trinity Lutheran Church of Miles City, Montana.
