August Charles Whitedirt (Ho'nehe-vo'otonahe) left us to be with Maheo on April 5, 2009.
He was born on June 5, 1986 in Crow Agency, MT. He was welcomed to this earth by his parents Gizelle Kellum and Randy Whitedirt, Sr. He was the eldest son of both his parents children and took pride in being the oldest brother. As a infant his grandparents Gilbert and Virginia Whitedirt took him to Utah where they took many trips and seen many places. He grew up in Lame Deer, MT, and spent the majority of his time with family and friends. August was always energetic, happy, outgoing and loved being around those he loved. He was born into the Elk Horn Scraper Society and was a baptized member of the Mormon Church. August was also a descendent of Chief Crazy Head. He enjoyed talking with his grandparents and learning from them as much as he can. August was very close to his grandfather Gilbert Whitedirt, whom he loved tremendously. August was quite a character who also loved to joke, tease and play pranks.
He enlisted in the Army National Guard in 2008. He enjoyed telling stories about the time he spent in training and what his duties as a soldier entailed. There were times when all August could talk about was what he wanted to do with his life and who he wanted to become. August loved all creatures alive, going to sweats and dancing at Pow-Wows, playing basketball with his cousins, constantly traveling to many places, going firefighting in the summer, and working as a seasonal tree planter for the Northern Cheyenne Tribe.August held his childhood friends very close to his heart. He was very close to his uncle George Kellum. August and his uncle George spent a countless number of times together growing up. They spent a vast part of their time together playing military and hide-and-seek up in the hills behind his grandmother Georgianns home. He also spent a lot of time with his good friends, Curtis Selage and Pete Roundstone.
