In Memory Of

Barbara Gies, age 84, of Lame Deer

February 5, 1938 – March 2, 2022

Barbara Jean (Sherman) Alderman- Gies
February 5, 1938 – March 2, 2022
Barbara Jean (Sherman) Alderman- Gies was born February 5 1938 in Lame Deer, Montana to Otto (Parker) Sherman and Letha( Eastman) Sherman. Most of her life was lived in a multi-generational household and was an integral part of making that system successful as was our Grandfather Otto, Grandmother Letha, and Aunt Christine (Sherman) Hamilton all taking part in raising six boys, Frank Lanagan, Howard Hamilton, Jim Alderman, Mike Hamilton, Richard Hamilton, Duane Hobbs, and one girl Tina Hamilton

Barbara was married in Bremerton Washington to James Alderman, Sr. with whom she had her first child, James junior, in Bremerton, Washington in 1954 at the age of 16. She was divorced a year later and returned to the Northern Cheyenne Indian Reservation. She was employed by James Mullins at the Busby store until moving to California in 1959 where she began refining her accounting skills in Los Angles, CA. By 1971 she returned home to the NC Reservation with sons James Alderman and Duane Hobbs,( the latter being born in Pasadena, California in 1964) and those accounting skills. Barbara continued to work in payroll and accounting in Lame Deer, MT, and Colstrip, MT where she retired in 1992. After retiring she remarried to Stan Gies and moved to Nevada. Mom was a hard worker and dependable employee even working two jobs when she could and always working to the benefit of the Family, never for herself alone. In 2005 she returned to the Reservation and lived here and Billings until her Final Return Home surrounded by: her son James Rita, Grandson Kyle Alderman, Granddaughter Jasmine Alderman, and Grandson Braedon Hobbs in her final hours at the Alderman home west of Lame Deer.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents Otto(Parker) Sherman and Letha(Eastman) Sherman, her son Duane Hobbs, sisters Doris (Eastman) Lanagan, Christine (Sherman) Hamilton, and brothers Dewy, Richard, Gary, Allen “Pete” Sherman, nieces Tina Hamilton, Stephanie Hamilton-Currier and Michell Sherman, nephew Howard Hamilton,.

She is survived by her son Jim (Rita) Alderman, grandsons Dustin (Janel) Alderman, and Kyle Alderman, and granddaughter Jasmine Alderman, and grandson Braedon Hobbs nephews Frank(Diana) Lanagan, Mike (Darlene) Hamilton, Richard (Brenda) Hamilton Eric(Trish) Sherman, Gary Sherman, JR, and Eli Wallowing, great granddaughters Raven(Richie) Pantoja with great great granddaughters Lila and Remi, great granddaughter Jade Alderman with great great grandson Bennet, grand nieces Mylii Hamilton Krystina Hamilton, Lexi Hamiltion and Tashina Hamilton. Extended Families Bixby, Eastman, Parker, La Franier, Pease, Brien, Robinson, White Wolf, Storm, Lefever, Beartusk, Freeman, Braine, Pitman, Big Head, Shoulder Blade. Sorry if we forgot to mention anyone.
Barbara served as a great example for her work ethics, generosity, faith, and family unity. She had so many great qualities about her, her unconditional Love being the greatest and she will be deeply missed.

A Mother’s heart what a strong and wonderous creation. A heart that can be completely broken beyond all seemingly impossible repair, yet seems to forget, while you’ll always remember and always regret, how can it be so easily taken for granted a person who goes through such terrible pain and sacrifice for her child’s beginning knowing the pain she endures is only the beginning of the pain she’ll hold deep inside and never reveal all the tears she has cried. Her love so real it can’t really be matched, or forgotten in time, because she’ll be with you always, in your heart and in your mind, THANK YOU FOR YOUR LOVE, MY DEAR LOVING MOTHER🤟

there Will be celebration of life services later this summer for both Barbara Gies and Duane Hobbs her youngest son
