Barbara Jo Hanifen known as BJ or Barbie to family passed away on March 30, 2009 at her home in Elko, Nevada.
Barbara was born on December 29, 1955 in Ironton, Missouri to Henry and Martha Twomey. Barbara grew up with a large family including 5 sisters and 3 brothers. Barbara graduated high school in Missouri and later graduated college from Delaware with a degree in construction.Barbara married Gene Harrington in 1975 and had two children, Toni and Scott. Barbara remarried Jerome Ketterling in 1982 and celebrated 7 years of marriage which including lots of travel and taking in foreign culture. In 1992 BJ married her husband Timothy Hanifen of the last 17 years. They spent most of that time in Montana raising a garden, spending time with their children and grandchildren, Lander, Jacob, Paige, Peyton and Bella, and spoiling their three Dachshunds Doc, Molly and Cricket.She was a nurses assistant for many years and put her heart into taking care of patients, many of whose lives she touched and who touched hers. BJ was a empathetic, generous woman with a sarcastic sense of humor.
BJs passions were her family, gardening, her dogs, camping, fishing, and the outdoors. She loved spending Thanksgiving with her family and cooking a delicious meal.
BJ is survived by her husband Timothy Hanifen of Elko, NV, daughter Toni Potts, (Mathew) of Forsyth, MT, son Scott Harrington (Jackie) of Forsyth, MT, step-son Chris Hanifen of Big Sky, MT, step-daughter Jennifer Hanifen of Puyallup, WA, grandchildren Lander, Paige, and Peyton Potts of Forsyth, MT, grandchildren Jacob and Bella Harrington of Forsyth, MT, sisters Judy (Percy) Brazier of Chesterfield, Virginia, Dodi Twomey of San Diego, CA, Donna (Glenn) Scovil of Dover, DE, brother Hank Twomey of Bonne Terre, Missouri, brother Zack (Violet) Twomey of Bonne Terre, Missouri, sister Zabada of Missouri, and brother Zane of Missouri. BJ is also survived by all her beloved nieces and nephews.
Barbie will join those who preceded her in death Grandma and Grandpa Twomey, Grandma and Grandpa Pettus, Father and Mother Henry and Martha Twomey, and sister Cricket Twomey.
Barbara will be missed but we will cherish the time we had with her and treasure the memories and love she left behind.
