Battista was born on January 15, 1925 in the house he has lived in all his life. His parents were Joseph and Emma (Alberga) Gianino. He had planned to be a mechanic, but his father had broke his leg. So he returned home to take over the ranch. His first marriage lasted less than a year. To this marriage a daughter Nilda was born. With the help of his parents they raised her. He was a 4-H leader for several years. On December 11, 1985, he married for a second time to Judy Boughton. To this union a daughter Wende Lynn was born.
Battista loved haying, his livestock, threshing, helping neighbors and going to auction sales. He was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge #859 of Belle Fourche, SD. He was also a dealer for Modern Farm & Vermeer. He loved to visit and knew no strangers.
Battista is survived by his daughter, Wende of the family ranch, a sister Katherine (Gale) Prentice of Phoenix, AZ; three grandchildren, three great grandchildren and two nieces and two nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter Nilda and his wife Judy.
