Benedict (Benny) Speelman, age 66 of Lame Deer met with our dear Lord and Savior on Wednesday, February 12, 2025 in Lame Deer.
Benny was born to Orville Speelman, Sr and Ruth Tangledyellowhair. His Cheyenne name is Yellow Hair (Heov’a ehe) was given to him by his grandfather, Gene Tangledyellowhair.
Benny loved to fight fires, tree planting, thinning, logging timber and was a good ranch hand. He was a man of many trades and was known as the “Mountain Man”.
He will be remembered by his jokes, crazy humor and his smile that would brighten a room.
Benny attended school at Lame Deer, Busby and Colstrip.
He is survived by his children: Benji (Roberta) Headswift, Tristan Redfox and Amber (Thomas Yellowbird III) Redneck. Brothers: Henry (Janice) Speelman, Sr and Stacey Fisher. Sisters: Twilla (Steve Killsontop) Speelman, Reverends Suzette (Scott) Shreffler, Edith Cain, Renessa (Wesley) Russette, Sr, Iris Westika and Regina Johnson. Uncles: Martin Hart, Jimmy Fox, Richard Fox, Joe (Lucinda) Fox and Llevando(Cowboy) (Phyliss) Fisher. Aunt: Nellie Speelman. Benny had many nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his mother Ruth, father, Orville, Sr, stepmother Alvina Fisher and adopted parents Nick and May Selage. Brothers: Orville Speelman, Jr and Jimmy Selage.
The family would like to thank Kirby Small, Officer Stillsmoking, Allen Fulton, Lame Deer IHS staff, Ann Bigback and Brandi Robinson.
Our family is large and he had many friends, if we forgot anyone, we apologize.

His mother Ruth TANGLED YELLOW HAIR, and my mother Eva White crane were first cousins but called each othersisters.Ruthsdad was Dave TYH and Eva’s mom was Ella TYH. I brought Ben home for Thanksgiving dinner.i was telling him about som of his relatives, he said he knew some. Martin Hart is the only one left on his aunt Roberta TYH Hart’s side. And on Winona Fox was also a close relative. Joe fox,Jimmy Foxand RichardFox are her kids. Jasper whitecrane had Winslow, Vincent and Connie only one left is Vincent.my mom Eva had children.
