Bessie Williams

Bessie Vene Williams of Gillette, age 93 died of natural causes at Pioneer Manor on Tuesday, July 29.

Bessie was born the daughter of Alvin and Olive (Smith) McGrath on June 10, 1910 in Wecota, South Dakota. She was raised and educated in South Dakota. Upon completion of her schooling, Bessie worked as a mothers helper and helped on her familys farm. In 1932, she married Corlis Hunt. Together, they homesteaded in Northern Campbell County where they made their home and began their family. After a stay in California, Bessie and her family moved back to Gillette in 1947. After the death of her husband, in 1947, she remained in Gillette until she married Warren Williams in December of 1959. The couple then moved to Albuquerque. In the early 1970s, Bessie and Warren returned to Gillette. In 1973, Warren passed away. A year later Bessie moved to Glenrock and resided there until 1989, when she moved back to Gillette, where she has resided ever since.

Bessie enjoyed crocheting, quilting, and canning. She especially loved to garden and work in her yard.

Bessie is survived by her children: five daughters: Avis Palmer of Casper, WY, June Edwards of Gillette, WY, Harriet Richens of Cocolalla, ID, Doris Griego of Albuquerque, NM, Reita Pohl, of Fort Worth, TX; one son, Lenard Hunt of Point of Rocks, WY; one sister, Julia Dorothy; one brother, Howard McGrath; 22 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, one great great grandchild, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Bessie was preceded in death by her parents, two husband's, one brother, two sisters, one son, Leland, and one infant daughter Mavis.

Memorials may be sent to the American Heart Association in care of Stevenson-Wilson Funeral Home, 210 W. 5th St. Gillette, WY 82716.
