Betty J. Prell, age 68, of Gillette passed away Friday, August 1, 2003 at Campbell County Memorial Hospital.
A Memorial Service will be at 2:00 p.m. Monday, August 4, 2003 at Bettys Home, 61 Nathan Hale Road in Gillette, Wyoming. The family will be officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenwood Cemetery in Newcastle, Wyoming.
Betty J. Prell was born November 10, 1934, the second daughter of Joseph and Edna (Mitchell) Boyd in Olla, Louisiana. When Betty was a young girl, she moved with her family to Oklahoma. She attended school there until her family moved to Powell, Wyoming. Betty graduated from High School in Powell. In 1951, Betty and Elmer Dillon were married in Cody, Wyoming. The couple had five children together and later divorced. During this time Betty cleaned rooms for a local hotel and waitressed. She married Ed Prell in Steamboat Springs, Colorado, 1964. Together Betty and Ed lived in various places in Colorado and Wyoming. Ed worked in the oil fields and in 1969, they move to Gillette, owning and operating Colts Bar for six years. The business was sold in 1977 and Ed went to work for Parker Drilling, moving the family to Mallorca, Spain for three years. They returned to Gillette in 1981 and Betty started her own dog breeding business called Prells Coolpups where she bred dogs for the last 22 years. In 2002, her husband, Ed passed away.
Betty enjoyed sewing, gardening, crocheting. She loved to fish for sturgeon and catfish. She was a member of the American Kennel Club and the Elks.
Betty is survived by her Children: Mary and Ron Hess of Gillette, WY, Carol and Jay Lanchbury of Ralston, WY, Pam and Jim Johnston of Gillette, WY, Sherril and Kelly Kofoed of Blackfoot, ID, Betty and Randy Wallace of Newton, N.C., Ed and Elana Prell of Kingman, AZ, Amy and Jason Fairweather of Sheridan, WY; her step-daughters; Corrine, Tammy and Stephanie, her sisters: Norma Ewalt of Powell, WY, Annette Boyd of Tennessee, Jeannie Boyd of New York; 25 grandchildren; and 27 great grandchildren. Betty is preceded in death by her parents; husband Ed; and one sister, Doris.
A memorial has been established in Bettys name and may be sent to 61 Nathan Hale, Gillette, WY 82716. Cards and condolences may be sent to the same address.
