Billy Kenneth Sherer, age 85 of Jordan, MT, passed away at the Garfield County Nursing Home on May 27, 2020 with family by his side.
Bill was born on June 24, 1934 in Pilot Point, Texas. He was the son of Kenneth and Thelma (Wallace) Sherer. Bill graduated high school from Boise City, Oklahoma. Bill also spent a short time as the football coach there in Boise City. He joined the United States Air Force in 1954 during the Korean War. He started his training in San Antonio, TX and attended flight school in Elmendorf, TX. Bill was based in Goose Bay Labrador Airforce Base where he was one pilot out of an eight-man crew and flew a C124. Bill flew worldwide for over three years. During the service he completed his PhD in AG education. When he was honorably discharged from the military, he taught VO-AG in Spearman, TX for another 3 to 4 years. Bill also went to auctioneer schooling and loved practicing as one. In fact, one of his favorite pastimes was going to antique and auction sales to wheel and deal on new treasures. During this time, he also spent time at the Pine Creek Herford Ranch in Salmon, ID. He married his first wife Katie in January of 1958 in Texas and had three children: Karen, Billy, and Kathy. Bill was in the cattle buying and transportation business during these years and later moved up to Nebraska. He married Marcy in September of 1968 and to this union they had two girls: Kristina and Kathleen. Roughly around 1977 the cattle buying, and transportation business brought him to Garfield County where he would call home for the remainder of his lifetime. He married Janet Ritter on February 7, 1981. They had one daughter, Caroline. Bill continued to work on various farms and ranches in the area as he had a love for agriculture. He even travelled a couple harvest seasons to work with Lawrence Harvesting down in Texas- a custom combine crew. Later in life he and Janet opened J & C Nursery there in Jordan. He enjoyed making custom canvas’ for everyone in the area whether it be a calf blanket or a tent he could make it. This was a hot spot for drinking coffee and visiting for the locals of Jordan for many years. They both had the store until Bill had his stroke in 2008. Bill also served as a town council member for the city of Jordan. Bill loved to travel with Janet in the later years of their life, especially in the Midwest and Southern states. He loved old western movies. Most of all he loved his children and grandchildren. Bill always had a great sense of humor and always enjoyed giving someone a hard time with a joke. Caroline and Bill would often conversate: “No matter how old I am I will always be your little girl.” Bill would reply: “And I will always be your daddy!”
Bill was preceded in death by his wife Janet Sherer, his parents, a son Billy Sherer, a brother Dan Sherer and a sister Sharon Moore.
He is survived by his children: Karen (Steve) Bertram of Texas, Kathy (Kenny) Patrick of Alabama, Kristina (Kevin) Train of Texas, Kathleen (Jim) Price of Texas, Caroline (Jeremy) Heller of Williston, ND, a daughter in law Linda Sherer of Texas and a sister in law Patricia Sherer of Texas; his step children: Debbie (Claude) Keith of Bridger, MT and Patty Sewell of Billings, MT.
