Brant Keyes Quick was born in Circle, October 27, 1963. He was the first son of Lyle and Donna (Strid) Quick and the older brother of Warren, Karen, and Becky. He was proud of his nieces and nephews and enjoyed videos of all of them in their various activities. But Brant was especially proud of the fact that he turned his nephew, Jagger, into a rabid Steelers’ fan like he was. They had many phone conversations about game strategy and draft picks.
Brant lived in the Circle area most of his life. After graduating high school, he went to college for a few years then worked as a commodity broker in Minnesota. Brant lived and worked in Florida for a while and also for the Northern Plains Resource Council where he organized and lobbied at the state legislature. He was one of the organizers for the United Farmer and Rancher Congress in St. Louis. After working several years on the Quick Farm and Ranch, he came to work on the Yarger Ranch. To say that Brant led an average life and was just a normal guy is to have never known him. He was above average in most ways but was the antithesis of normal in every way.
Brant was the most stubborn and opinionated person on the planet, but he was consistent. If you look up the definition of an enigma in the dictionary, there is a picture of Brant. One of Brant’s greatest attributes was his ability to cut to the chase. Whether one agreed or disagreed with him, there was never any doubt as to his opinions. If he had a problem with someone, he said it to their face, never behind their back. He could discuss quantum physics, complex economic policy, astronomy, archaeology, the history of Steeler football, the merits of good Kentucky Bourbon and was unbeatable in Trivial Pursuit and Foosball. He was fun to be around, loyal to his friends, and honest.
Brant could pull a breech calf out of a two-year-old heifer in a snowstorm in the middle of the night with a smile on his face. He could do almost anything, however, sometimes the planning and thinking portion of the job overshadowed the actual doing of the job. In spite of his many skills, genetics being what it is, Brant inherited his dad’s skills and techniques with farm equipment. He could destroy an anvil with a couple of chicken feathers. That was Brant Quick.
About four years ago, Brant met Diane Black. The two became inseparable and were so happy. Brant quickly became attached to Diane’s youngest granddaughter, Lorelei, and she affectionately referred to him as “Gampa Bant”. When he first went in for surgery, she said she wanted the doctor to take “the frog” out of his throat. Brant spent time with Lorelei and loved that she would call to talk to him instead of Gram Diane about the baby calves and other “farm things”. Through the dark days of Brant’s horrible disease, Diane seldom left his side. Before Brant passed, he smiled and said, “It’s okay, I’m at peace”.
Brant is survived by his mother, Donna; brother, Warren (Jami), children Abby, Connor, and Garrett Quick; sister, Karen Quick Loudon, son Strid; sister, Becky Mitchek (Jack), children Demi, Jaxi, and Jagger Mitchek. He is also survived by many aunts and uncles, cousins, and friends.
Brant is proceeded in death by his father; Lyle Quick.

So many memories of Brant from High School- specifically his desire to turn the pages of my music as I accompanied the choir. I guess he’d rather sit on the piano bench than stand and sing ☺️ I’m sad his colorful life was cut short, and my heart hurts for you all, especially Donna… no mother should ever have to bury a child. I will pray for peace and I understanding… Rest In Peace, my old friend.

Donna, Warren, Karen & Becky I was so sorry to hear of Brant’s passing, but know that he no longer has to deal with the pain of cancer. Our families were always intertwined from my earliest memories as well as having Brant in my class all through school. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you during this very sad and difficult time. God Bless you and guide you along this path. My heart is so heavy since I heard of Brant’s passing. It just doesn’t seem real. So as I type this, the tears roll down my face as I reminisce about who Brant is. What do I mention exactly? Maybe his crazy love for the Steelers. Or maybe his severe disdain for Bon Jovi. Maybe I should mention how he could sing with a beautiful voice of a song bird. While those are great memories of mine, I don’t think it does him justice. Though Brant sometimes may have had a gruff exterior, just below the surface was a kind gentle man. I’m so thankful that for a season of my life I was honored to share part of it with Brant. I was able to be a friend to him as he mourned the lose of his dad. Brant was always a joy for me to be around. As the seasons changed and our paths headed in different directions, I’ve always considered him a dear friend. I love him as a brother and friend and I am so sorry I didn’t stay in better communication with him. Brant will always hold a special place in my heart and I just wish I could have told him. Brant, you’re a good man. I love ya buddy.. My love and pray for his family is that they are comforted during this time of great loss
Barb Hinnaland says
Diane, Donna, Warren, Karen, Becky and families, I was so shocked and saddened to hear of Brant’s passing. The obituary was a beautiful tribute to the many facets of his personality. I saw him for the last time a little over 5 years ago when I was in Circle for Bob’s funeral and really enjoyed catching up with him. He was a great guy who will be fondly remembered by all who knew him. My thoughts are with you all during this difficult time.

So many fond memories of Brant, he was good friend to many weather you saw him every day or if it’s years between visits. I’ll never forget the years we all dressed up for Halloween together and will always stand by that Brant looked better in a mini skirt and me and could walk in heels way better, that is if he wasn’t walking on his hands. Diane and the whole Quick family you are in my thoughts and prayers and hope you will find peace in the days to come.

Dear Donna, Warren, Karen, Becky,
It’s hard to find the words. This lovely tribute captures who he was so perfectly. Over the past several days, I’ve found myself remembering Brant – particularly one funny memory we always laughed about together. We thought we were so cool…way back in Jr. High…😂😂. Each time, this memory came to me, it just made me giggle and I could sense his presence…just giggling right along with me. Just like always. I’ll always remember his “Rod Stewart” hair high school and none of us will ever forget how he and his “band of brothers” turned the word “juicy” into a word we cringed. You will be missed BKQ. Leanne. P.S. Cancer Sucks.😢
Tammy Combs says
I went to school with Brant through my sophomore year. I remember him as funny and fun-loving and always with a smile on his face. I watched the service today live stream, and I felt so full of joy after! Steve truly gave us all a picture of who Brant was and who he became. The pastor’s words were encouraging, as well! It is so comforting knowing that even though Brant felt he was a lost sheep, God searched him out and found him! And saved him! I found such joy in that! The days ahead will be hard for the family and those closest to him and I pray you will all find the peace that Brant found. This was the only funeral I have been to that has left me feeling so hopeful and full of joy. May God bless you all.
Shane Molander says
