Brenda Adienne Gjerde went to be with her heavenly father Friday evening, January 26, 2024 at Edgewood Vista in Billings, MT. surrounded by her family.
Brenda was born August 5, 1949 in Rhame, ND to Arnold Gjerde and Borghild (Boots) Gjerde. She was the 5th of 8 children. Her early life was spent in Rhame, ND. They then moved a couple times, before moving to Jordan. She started school in Jordan, MT. The family moved to Miles City in 1959 where she continued her education and graduated from Custer County High School in 1967.
After graduating from high school, she moved to California with her brother Wayne. There, she went to college at Life Bible College in Los Angeles for two years and then moved back to Montana. Through her sister Evelyn, she met David Edward Rickett (Ed). They married on April 5, 1970. They had 3 children, David, Denise (The “Twins”) and Julie.
The “Twins” were born in Tulsa, OK in 1972, while Ed was there for college. They then moved back to Miles City in the spring of 1973. Brenda started her career at First Citizen’s Bank, which later became First Interstate Bank in Miles City. Julie was born in Miles City in 1975. Brenda and Ed raised their family in Miles City. Her hobbies at that time included playing the piano, reading, crossword puzzles, crocheting and bowling.
She continued her career in banking and transferred to Billings in 1991 with First Interstate Bank. Her first grandchild, Kassy, was born in October, 1991. She spent the next several years working and spending her free time with her children, and grandchildren, Kassy, Colton, David (Trey), Kylana and Trenton.
In 2001, she suffered a massive stroke which ended her career as a data processing supervisor with First Interstate Bank. After her stroke, she became active in her church, helping out with Vacation bible school in the summers among other volunteer work throughout the year. She loved listening to music and playing Bejeweled on her computer. Thankfully she was able to live on her own for many years.
In 2018, she was no longer able to live independently. Her sticky notes would no longer hold her life together and she moved into an assisted living. As her dementia progressed, she was moved into Edgewood Vista, a memory care facility in Billings, who took great care of her until her death.
She was proceeded in death by her parents Arnold Gjerde and Boots LeNoue. Her brothers, Monte Briggs and Wayne Gjerde. She is survived by her children David (Shelley) Rickett, Denise (Kevin) Maurer and Julie Rickett. Her grandchildren Kassy (Lucas) DeBats, Kylee Maurer, Kallem Maurer, Kortny Maurer, Trey (Annie) Rickett, Kylana (Forrest) Hester, Colton Rickett and Trenton (Flor) Greub.
