Brian Schoof, age 85, of Miles City passed away on October 30, 2025 in Miles City.
Brian was born in Billings, Montana, on April 18, 1940, to Frances Jane Palmer and Fredrick William Schoof. Brian grew up in Forsyth and attended and graduated from Forsyth High School. Brian loved to tell stories of his early years and spoke about spending time with family, his grandparents and all of his friends. He enjoyed fishing and outdoor activities- sometimes causing trouble as teenagers of that era world.
Brian attended and graduated from Indiana Tech as an electrical engineer. He continued his education over the years and earned other degrees in petroleum and artic engineering. Brian went to work for Schumberger and worked in oil fields and on oil platforms around the world. He married and was blessed with his daughter Dana. This marriage ended in divorce after a few years.
Brian met and married Rose Cain, who was the love of his life. They moved to Alaska, and he continued to work in the oil fields, USGS, and enjoyed his hobbies and family. Brian loved to camp, fish, hunt, and run a jewelry business, all with Rose.
Brian retired and he and Rose moved back to Montana. He continued to do consulting work and added to his hobbies. Brian participated in SAS, trapshooting, enjoyed shooting buffalo guns and spending time with his gun buddies at the range or discussing how to save the world over a cup of coffee.
Brian is preceded in death by his parents Fredrick and Frances and his beloved wife Rose. He is survived by his daughter Dana, extended family and many friends he made over the years.
His love of life, Rose and his dogs are only rivaled by his love of guns. Brian lived his life the way he wanted- on the edge and to the fullest.

Brian will be missed by the Derenburgers. He was always polite with use. I enjoyed talking with him about firearms and reloads, when we were shooting buffalo rifles. It will be a loss of information that he was always willing to share with others.
Carrie Etherington says
Brian was one of Mitch’s best friends. Everytime we saw each other after Mitch’s passing, Brian would talk about their friendship and how much he missed him. What a reunion in heaven that must have been. He was always so great to my kids also, he will be missed. ~Carrie Beach
