Bruce Alan Brown, age 78, of Miles City formerly of Terry passed away on Sunday, November 13, 2011 at his home in Miles City.
Bruce was born in Ismay, Montana on June 1, 1933, the son of Arthur and Pauline (Sheldon) Brown. He grew up on the Brown ranch southeast of Terry. He attended country school then Terry High School where he graduated as valedictorian in 1951. He enlisted in the United States Navy on April 14, 1952 where he was an Air Controlman 2nd Class. He was honorably discharged on March 23, 1956. Bruce married Jean Trask on September 20, 1952 in Norman, Oklahoma. They then moved back to the family farm at Terry where he farmed and ranched until 1966. He then worked for the Farmers Union Trading Company in Terry until 1984 when he started Bruce Brown Builders which he owned and operated until 2008 when he retired. Bruce enjoyed carving leather and was a master leather craftsman.
Bruce was an active member of the Community Presbyterian Church for 60 years and served as an Elder and Trustee. He was a Blue Lodge Mason, Royal Arch Mason, member of the Prairie County Soil Conservation Service Advisory Board, Prairie County Selective Service Board, Terry School Board, Prairie County Fair Board, Terry Chamber of Commerce, Montana Grain Growers and Montana Stockgrowers.
Bruce is survived by his wife, Jean Brown of Miles City, MT; his children: Rebecca Brown of Honolulu, HI; Alana Bryan of Puyallup, WA; Kimberly (Vince) Fontana of Arvada, CO; Cameron (Rhonda) Brown of Miles City, MT; and Melissa (Ed) Adams of Belgrade, MT; a brother, Philip Dale (Joan) Brown of Terry, MT; twenty seven grandchildren and twenty nine great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Jean Reimer.
Visitation will be held on Friday, November 18, 2011 from 1:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Terry followed by a prayer service at 6:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 19, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at the Community Presbyterian Church in Terry. Interment will follow in Veteran Section of the Prairie County Cemetery. Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home of Terry is in charge of the arrangements.
