Interment: with military honors to follow at the Montana State Veterans Cemetery at Fort Harrison.
Byron K. Baker went home to be with his Lord and Savior on April 22, 2010 surrounded by his loving family.
Byron was born in a buggy en route from Andes to Culbertson, MT on August 5, 1919 to George and Clara (Palmer) Baker. He attended elementary and high school in Culbertson and went into the Army in 1942. While in the military, he received the Purple Heart, Infantry Badge, Overseas Combat Badge, American WWII Medal, Gold Star for Bravery, Expert Carbine Rifleman and Sharp Shooters Medal. Byron was honored and very proud to have served his country.
He married the love of his life, Vivian Caldwell in Stillwater, TX in 1944. He had several occupations throughout his lifetime including professional musician, welder, mechanic, and trucking lumber. He loved hunting with his kids, grandkids, great-grandkids, old western movies, a good rib steak and playing music. He was always ready to play the guitar and sing no matter the day or time.
Byron is survived by Vivian, his devoted wife of 65 years; sister June Thompson of Culbertson; children, Shirley (Jeff) Schilling of Elliston, Sharon (Mike) Pickens of Colstrip, Larry (Judy) Baker, Mike (Dalena) Baker, Lynnae and Dan Bright all of Helena; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Byron will be remembered by his family and loved one's for his love, anexceptional sense of humor and the way he could and would share his love of Jesus anytime and anywhere. We are comforted in knowing we will meet him in heaven.
Cremation has taken place under the care of Anderson Stevenson Wilke Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, April 29, at the First Assembly of God Church followed by a graveside ceremony with military honors at the Montana State Veterans Cemetery, Fort Harrison.
